Job Description

The Director of Agentic Leadership is a senior leader within Human Resources' organization, reporting to the Vice President of Organizational Effectiveness/Chief Learning Officer. Working in close partnership with the VP/CLO, the Director helps define UCSF's enterprise strategy and translates that vision into practical, scalable capabilities.

The Director leads the Agentic Leadership Lab and manages a team of Leadership Development professionals. Agentic Leadership refers to equipping leaders to effectively partner with AI, redesign work, and lead increasingly AI-enabled organizations. As a member of the Organizational Effectiveness (OE) leadership team, the Director partners with Leadership Development, Organizational Development, Talent Systems, HR Business Partners, technology partners, and executive leaders across UCSF Health and UCSF Campus.

The role explores how artificial intelligence can augment—not replace—the uniquely human work of leadership to strengthen leadership effectiveness, decision-making, and organizational performance. The Director helps define the future of leadership at UCSF by designing AI-enabled capabilities that help leaders recognize diverse perspectives, better understand individual and team differences, recognize unconscious bias, broaden perspective, personalize communication, and make more thoughtful, inclusive decisions. By helping leaders better understand communication preferences, motivations, work styles, behavioral tendencies, and common leadership pitfalls, these capabilities strengthen empathy, build trust, elevate the diverse strengths of the workforce, and create more equitable leadership experiences.

Equally important, the Director develops AI-enabled leadership tools that streamline workflows, automate repetitive tasks, reduce administrative burden, and create more time for leaders to think strategically, lead organizational change, coach and develop their teams, and build meaningful relationships.

This role establishes and scales UCSF's Agentic Leadership capability using a phased strategy: prototype within OE, expand across Human Resources, and ultimately scale across UCSF Health and UCSF Campus. The Director applies an AI innovation mindset to leadership, designing AI-enabled workflows, digital assistants, and practical leadership tools that improve effectiveness while responsibly accelerating enterprise AI adoption.

Full-time, one year contract role.
