Job Description

The Director of Accounting is responsible for leading the company’s accounting function, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting, and maintaining a strong internal control environment. This role oversees all core accounting operations, including the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, and provides leadership across financial reporting, compliance, and systems optimization.

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Director of Accounting manages the Controller and partners cross-functionally with leadership to strengthen processes, enhance financial visibility, and support scalable business growth. The role also serves as a key leader in driving continuous improvement across accounting operations, systems, and reporting, while overseeing sales tax and supporting income tax activities.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Leadership & Financial Oversight

  • Lead the accounting function, ensuring accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting.
  • Oversee and continuously improve the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Review and approve financial statements, management reporting, reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy, completeness, and relevance.
  • Establish and maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance.
  • Oversee quality control across all accounting outputs, ensuring consistency, auditability, and reliability.

Tax, Audit & Compliance

  • Oversee sales and use tax processes, including compliance, filings, reconciliations, and coordination with internal teams and external partners.
  • Support external audits and income tax activities (compliance and provision) by coordinating data preparation, reviewing schedules, and partnering with auditors and advisors, with the CFO maintaining primary ownership.
  • Evaluate technical accounting matters and provide clear, practical guidance on accounting treatment.

Process Improvement & Systems Optimization

  • Drive continuous improvement across accounting workflows, close processes, and internal controls to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Identify process gaps, inefficiencies, and control risks, implementing sustainable solutions.
  • Lead optimization of financial systems, including NetSuite and Workday Adaptive Planning, through enhancements, integrations, automation, and improved reporting.
  • Establish standardized processes and documentation to ensure consistency across the accounting function.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Decision Support

  • Partner with the CFO and operational leaders to support budgeting, forecasting, and business performance analysis.
  • Enhance financial and operational reporting to deliver clear, actionable insights to leadership.
  • Support strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects that improve financial visibility and operational effectiveness.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, develop, and mentor the Controller and accounting team, establishing clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards.
  • Build a high-performing team culture focused on accuracy, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure team alignment with deadlines, quality standards, and evolving business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA required.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience managing audits and working with external auditors.
  • Experience with sales and use tax compliance and income tax support.
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite and Workday Adaptive Planning preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop accounting teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution.

  • Experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented company.
  • Experience improving accounting operations, clo27.2026se processes, and system integrations.

Work Environment and Location

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This role occasionally must lift and carry office equipment. Occasional evening, night, and weekend shifts are required.
  • This role is fully in office, Monday through Friday, and requires regular onsite presence to support team leadership, collaboration, and cross-functional partnership.

Salary Range:

$160,000 - $180,000
