As the Director of Nursing Quality and Professional Practice, you will be responsible for all market activities related to nursing quality and professional practice in alignment with the enterprise nursing quality and professional practice teams. In this role, you will lead the team of nursing quality, professional practice, and support staff within the market through a direct reporting structure. You will oversee and serve as the Site Facilitator for nursing-sensitive quality data reporting to the National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and implement performance improvement activities related to quality metrics, patient safety, and practice compliance. This role partners closely with inpatient leadership, from the CNO down, to analyze metrics, identify opportunities for operational improvement, and conduct root cause analysis. Acting as a representative voice for nurses, the position provides enterprise-level action plans while collaborating directly with nurse managers through rounding to ensure compliance with quality metrics. Responsibilities include leading and co-chairing nursing-specific committees, such as Falls, facilitating improvement work at both the local and enterprise level, and supporting presentations across units, nursing MORs, and conferences.

This position will manage the Magnet Recognition Program and/or Pathway Recognition Program within the market in accordance with the standards of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and work collaboratively with nursing leadership to ensure compliance with applicable standards. You will oversee all phases of the Magnet/Pathway Program process for the market, including Magnet Steering Committees and Ambassador Programs, while serving as a mentor and coach to nurses at all levels. You will also be responsible for the oversight of nursing policy and practice standards in the market.

A caregiver in this role works days from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

This role requires occasional travel between all three sites at least monthly or quarterly, with mileage reimbursed.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Manage a team of caregivers responsible for nursing quality and professional practice activities in the market
• Develop caregivers on the team and manage their performance
• Ensure standardization of nursing practice throughout the market and ensure alignment with the standards of practice across the enterprise
• Manage the nursing policy approval process in the market.
• Monitor and analyze market-level quality outcomes, including nursing-sensitive quality data.
• Oversee all aspects of the collection, administration, benchmarking, and dissemination of the NDNQI database and nursing-sensitive indicators.
• Develop and assure process to monitor performance and identify where intervention is needed.
• Collaborate with nursing and organizational leadership to develop key annual performance indicators and to drive local improvements to meet the goals.
• Provide written and verbal data reviews to nursing and other leaders, including executive leadership.
• Partner with other departments to support and implement best practices.
• Collaborate with safety, quality, and patient experience professionals and nursing leadership to implement actionable items related to quality performance and compliance to standards of care.
• Drive continuous improvement activities around quality, safety, and patient experience priorities and coordinates improvement projects.
• Manage changes to ensure the adoption and sustainment of quality improvement.
• Oversee and manages all aspects of the Magnet/Pathways process from application to maintenance of certification.
• Communicate with Magnet appraisers and reapply for Magnet designation as appropriate.
• Provide leadership and guidance to internal and external nursing colleagues regarding Magnet/Pathways gap analysis, status, goals, and programs.
• Oversee and provide the interim reporting required by ANCC between the designation processes and is a liaison for Cleveland Clinic with the ANCC national office as needed
• Collaborate with nursing leadership to comply with Magnet/Pathway standards.
• Facilitate Magnet/Pathway steering committee and Magnet/Pathway ambassador program.
• Serve as a coach and mentor.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• BSN and Master’s degree
• Registered Nurse in the state of employment
• Quality or nursing leadership certification within two years (CPHQ or NBABC)
• Five years of clinical nursing experience
• Three years of nursing leadership experience
• Experience with project management or performance management activities
• Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in nursing management within a large health care facility

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Policy and Quality experience
• MAGNET experience
• Direct and non-direct leadership experience
• Shared governance work experience
• Project management experience

Physical Requirements:

• Requires the ability to sit and be stationary for prolonged periods of time, normal or corrected vision and manual dexterity sufficient to perform work on a personal computer.
• Requires the ability to walk to various locations throughout the campus and to function in a stressful environment.
• Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
• Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
• Note: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
