The Role

Directs and is responsible for the Clinical and Operational components of the Maternal Child Health department for Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. The position reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

What You’ll Do

  • Participates in staff selection and retention within assigned areas.
  • Under the direction of the CNO, develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Develops goals and objectives; develops and implements policies and procedures for operations and maintains established standards for improving organizational performance, patient/customer safety, environmental, and infection control practices.
  • Develops budgets for areas of responsibility and works with the CNO to ensure that processes are established to remain at or under budget. Determines, with the assistance of the Nurse Managers, the need for capital by prioritizing equipment based upon safety and/or regulatory requirements.
  • Determines metrics for areas of responsibility to assure that patient care and regulatory requirements are being met at all times. Prepares periodic reports for appropriate executive leadership, as required.
  • Consults with and advises the CNO of problems related to the operation of areas of responsibility and implements changes related to process or policy to carry out objectives more effectively.
  • Develops, monitors, and evaluates program development to include financial, regulatory, marketing, human resource, ethics, and community needs.
  • Participates in identifying strategic issues impacting the organization and the operational implications and presents a well-defined approach to improve areas of responsibility.
  • Serves as a coach and mentor to Managers. Assures that there is accountability at every level of responsibility.
  • Provides and maintains effective communications with medical staff, the community, and all levels of supervision and staff.
  • Ensures departments and areas comply with regulatory requirements as well as Providence Health System initiatives.
  • Identifies patient/client needs and develops quality programs to meet those needs. Ensures delivery of quality services for inpatients, outpatients, and all customers.
  • Analyzes and evaluates clinical services to improve quality of patient care and plan better use of staff time.
  • Develops and determines priorities and monitors the status of special projects on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise.
  • Participates in hospital and medical staff committee meetings as required. Attends and serves on professional and civic service organizations as a representative and conducts and attends departmental meetings.

What You’ll Bring

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing (preferred).
  • Required upon hire: California Registered Nurse License (Vendor Managed).
  • Preferred upon hire: National Certification in area of specialty.
  • Within 30 days of hire: California Fire and Life Safety Card - National Organization (Vendor Managed).

Experience & Expertise

  • 10 or more years of clinical experience.
  • 5 years of Administrative/Management experience.
  • Management experience in a hospital/healthcare environment.

Professional & Leadership Capabilities

  • Excellent human relations and oral/written communication skills.

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
