PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Director, National Estate and Planned Giving collaborates on the strategic leadership, direction and management for ADL’s planned giving program and related campaigns with a focus on growing the program for ADL’s future sustainability. ADL’s Planned Giving program includes gifts through bequests, charitable gift annuities, trusts, retirement plans, and similar complex giving vehicles that require specialized financial planning. The Director leads a team of Planned Giving officers and support staff, and collaborates closely with colleagues in major gifts, marketing, and direct mail fundraising, as well as fundraising staff in each of our twenty-four regions across the U.S.

Responsibilities

Primary:

  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of a strategic plan for ADL’s planned giving effort across the country in furtherance of ADL’s annual appeal andany special fundraising campaigns;
  • Identify, qualify, and build a robust planned giving pipeline from existing donors and new leads, executing tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies thateffectively communicate ADL's impact and inspire long-term support;
  • Increase bequest commitments while diversifying and expanding revenue beyondbequests, including growth in Charitable Gift Annuities and other traditional andinnovative planned giving vehicles;
  • Personally manage a portfolio of top planned giving donors and prospects;
  • Solicit planned gifts through marketing efforts, prospect identification andcollaborative integrated asks with major gift officers, senior executives, andvolunteer leadership;
  • Work closely with the Development team supporting donor conversations for endowed gifts and leading the Planned Giving portion of any capital or special campaign;
  • Provide reporting to the ADL Foundation Board and support internal leadership inexecuting their responsibilities toward the ADL Foundation Board and to ensure the proper and timely processing of estate documentation.
  • Work across departments, including marketing, and regionally to create compellingcases for philanthropic investment and accompanying marketing materials.
  • Provide stewardship for existing legacy and planned giving donors, collaborating withADL’s Director of Philanthropic Engagement to ensure a holistic stewardshipapproach.
  • Support, educate, and coach regional colleagues in their efforts to secure plannedgifts and as a subject matter expert, keeping current serving as the planned giving resource across the organization.
  • Experience managing a team, executing strategy and driving results.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Experience managing a team, executing strategy and driving results;
  • Working knowledge of estate, gift, and income tax law with the ability to clearly articulate PG prospects, PG society members, and fundraising colleagues.
  • A passion for continuous learning, teaching and coaching;
  • Excellent communication skills including writing, editing, research, and presentation;
  • Attention to detail, strong project management skills and ability to manage and meet simultaneous deadlines;
  • Customer service orientation and a professional demeanor necessary;
  • Technical competence required. Working familiarity and comfort in database systems, reporting, and analysis essential and comfort learning new technology;
  • Strong interest in ADL’s mission.

Experience:

  • The ideal candidate has a decade or more experience in development or similar sales-related profession, with significant demonstrable years in planned giving or a closely related field such as estate planning or fundraising with an emphasis on planned giving activities and a proven history of success in working cross departmentally to set strategy, execute plans, and achieve long-term and annual goals.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Advanced degree preferred.

Work Environment:

  • Some travel is required (10-15 percent).
  • ADL is a hybrid environment; this role requires 3 days in the office.

Compensation:

  • This position has a salary range of $170,000 to $180,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
