Job Description

The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels (“HSH” – owner and operator of The Peninsula Hotels, The Repulse Bay and many high-profile assets globally) is looking for a dynamic Director, MEP to join our Corporate Projects team in Hong Kong. In this strategic leadership role, you will provide technical direction and oversight for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and specialist systems across the HSH Group’s development portfolio. You will ensure engineering excellence, design integrity, operational suitability, and long-term asset performance while supporting the successful delivery of world-class hospitality and luxury property projects.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the strategic direction and governance of MEP and specialist systems across the global capital project portfolio, ensuring alignment with business objectives, Peninsula Standards, operational requirements, sustainability goals, and long-term asset value.
  • Act as the organisation’s senior engineering authority, providing technical leadership and oversight throughout the project lifecycle, from concept development and design strategy through construction, commissioning, handover, and operational readiness.
  • Drive excellence in engineering design and system integration, ensuring seamless coordination between MEP, specialist systems, architecture, interior design, technology, and operational requirements to deliver world-class hospitality environments.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, technical specifications, and governance frameworks, ensuring consistency, regulatory compliance, innovation, reliability, maintainability, and operational performance across all projects.
  • Lead the review, challenge, and approval of critical engineering deliverables, system selections, technical submissions, and design solutions, ensuring optimal outcomes in quality, performance, resilience, cost-effectiveness, and lifecycle value.
  • Partner with Project Delivery, Engineering Operations, Commercial, Procurement, and external consultants to develop procurement strategies, manage technical risks, support major commercial decisions, and ensure successful execution of project objectives.
  • Maintain accountability for engineering performance through project completion and operational handover, ensuring effective testing and commissioning, asset readiness, knowledge transfer, warranty management, and continuous improvement through the integration of operational feedback and lessons learned.

General Requirements

  • Proven expertise in MEP engineering, design management, and technical leadership across large-scale hospitality, mixed-use, or complex development projects.
  • Strong knowledge of building services systems, specialist technologies, engineering standards, asset performance, and operational requirements within luxury environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary consultants, reviewing complex technical designs, and providing governance across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to balance innovation, operational practicality, sustainability, and long-term asset performance.
  • Collaborative and influential leader with exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills in complex project environments.
