About the job:

The role exists to oversee entire Medical Business Unit and drive the team to ensure the attainment of financial and operational goals in support of Stryker Japan’s overall financial and strategic objectives. The position holder will plan, direct and coordinate the efforts of sales and marketing toward the accomplishment of objectives. Responsible for delivering sustainable revenue growth, expanding market share, and ensuring execution of global and local strategies across Medical BU portfolios, including Emergency Care, Acute Care, Public Access and Sage products.


For decades, Stryker's Medical BU products have developed innovations that help hospitals improve patient care, caregiver safety and operational efficiency. They include hospital beds, powered stretchers, transfer devices, AEDs, emergency response monitor/defibrillator, and other products for the emergency medical services industry. Moving forward, we will continue to contribute to better workplace environments in emergency and critical care settings by leveraging digital solutions and automation.


With a comprehensive suite of products for the emergency and critical care business as a total solution, he/she is positioned to lead Japan Medical BU and drive the transformation.

What you will be doing:

  • Plan and execute business strategy to achieve goals through cooperation with local, regional and global leaders/stakeholders
  • Develop market-based insights and implement the BU’s strategic and tactical business plan.
  • Drive adoption and expansion of advanced technologies.
  • Analyze and explore market trends to identify new opportunities in the market.
  • Define long-term portfolio strategy, including product lifecycle management and new technology introduction.
  • Build strategic partnerships with KOLs, hospitals, Fire District Headquarters, distributors, local government and emergency medical societies to influence market standards.
  • Build effective relationship with internal/external stakeholders so as to maintain good revenue increase for the BU
  • Develop and communicate the expectation levels and vision to the team
  • Coaching and mentoring members; motivating them all for effective performance for the overall growth of Stryker
  • Adhere, without exception, to the corporate compliance and ethics policies and ensure harmonious environment for working
  • Entire P/L management including sales and margin

Who are we looking for:

The job requires broad and comprehensive understanding of the different systems, theories and practices relevant to fast-moving med-tech business.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in sales, marketing, and/or business development at multinational companies
  • People management experience
  • Deep knowledge of Japanese healthcare regulations and reimbursement systems
  • Strong leadership abilities to operate effectively in a matrixed organization with broad and diverse teams
  • Proven track record of ability to positively motivate others and deliver business results with a high level of urgency
  • Excellent global communication and interpersonal skills to effectively build relationships across the business both at local and global level
  • Ability to innovate, creativity, strategic thinking
  • High energy, enthusiastic, positive attitude
  • Ability to overcome resistance to change, adapt to change, and lead change
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
