The position

As the Director, Medical Affairs, you will lead the Cardiometabolic team with strong people leadership and medical direction, driving internal alignment across key functions and influencing externally to advance scientific communication, improve HCP engagement, and ultimately impact patient outcomes.

As the Director, Medical Affairs, your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and execute integrated medical affairs strategies and scientific engagement plans for relevant therapy areas.
  • Provide strategic input to clinical trial protocols, real-world evidence (RWE) plans, and scientific recruitment and retention (SRR) activities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), integrate patient voices through advisory boards, and collaborate with International Professional Associations (IPAs).
  • Define and implement publication strategies, including RWE publications, and drive medical education initiatives for Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) through scientific meetings and symposia.
  • Lead and coach a team of in-house and field-based medical professionals, fostering a diverse, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
  • Represent Medical Affairs in global, regional, and local forums, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and cross-functional business objectives.
  • Manage annual budgets, capacity projections, and operating expenses for the therapy area unit.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to Marketing, Sales, Patient Access, and Clinical teams, ensuring resource allocation aligns with organisational goals.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:

  • MD, PhD, PharmD or other advanced degree required,
  • 7–10 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry or other related industry,
  • 5 years or more of direct people management experience,
  • Experience leading within a complex matrix organization; management of managers; oversight of both field-based and in-house teams (a plus),
  • Demonstrated experience in building medical strategies and driving strong execution,
  • Solid understanding of the pharmaceutical marketplace; experience leading teams with demonstrated ability to coach and a strong emphasis on performance,
  • Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving skills; ability to work with senior management and communicate effectively with different cross-functional partners,
  • Excellent knowledge of clinical trial methodology,
  • Strong leadership skills and proven success in people management,
  • Ability to deliver ambitious results through others,
  • Exceptional agility and ability to lead change,
  • Ability to manage a complex organization while instilling an environment of safety and trust,
  • Strong business acumen,
  • Strong collaboration across functions,
  • Strong stakeholder management skills

About the department

The Medical and Regulatory Affairs team at Novo Nordisk Canada is dedicated to advancing scientific communication and medical education. Based at our Canadian headquarters, the team collaborates closely with global, regional, and local stakeholders to deliver impactful medical strategies and ensure alignment with organisational priorities. The department fosters a fast-paced, dynamic, and inclusive atmosphere, where innovation and collaboration drive success. With approximately 25% travel within Canada and internationally, you'll have the opportunity to engage with KOLs, field managers, and healthcare professionals across the country and beyond.

Salary: For this role, the annual base salary ranges from $186,010 – $236,010. The placement in the salary range will be assessed during the recruitment process based on your skills, competencies, and knowledge, and how your relevant experience matches the position requirements.

Incentives: Based on the role’s level and other factors, the salary package may include short-term (STI) and/or long-term (LTI) incentives.
