The Role
The Director, Learner Operations is responsible for leading operational strategy and execution across the end-to-end learner lifecycle, ensuring scalable, efficient, and consistent processes supporting acquisition, enrollment, and student progression.
This role oversees all Acquisition and Retention operations functions, enabling high-quality execution through standardized processes, systems, and workflows that support Marketing, Enrollment, and Student Success teams in achieving acquisition, conversion, retention, and learner experience goals. The Director focuses on building and optimizing the operational infrastructure required to deliver consistent performance across partnerships and geographies, leveraging data, technology, and cross-functional alignment to enable measurable improvements in conversion, student experience, retention, and overall program performance.
Working cross-functionally with Marketing, Enrollment, Student Success, Technology, and Analytics teams, the Director ensures lifecycle operations are aligned, scalable, and continuously improving—translating business needs into effective operational processes while identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, data quality, and overall execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Marketing, Enrollment & Student Success, along with Partnership Strategy, Engagement, and Learner Experience teams, to define and execute a data-driven, end-to-end lifecycle strategy that drives measurable improvements from lead through completion, including standardization and governance of data across partnerships.
- Drive global operational strategy for Acquisition and Retention, establishing scalable processes, frameworks, and best practices that improve efficiency, operational effectiveness, and performance outcomes across regions and programs.
- Own the design and execution of enterprise operational infrastructure, including systems and tools to enable scalable, efficient, high-performing acquisition and retention operations across the learner lifecycle.
- Lead a global team of managers and operations staff, driving a high-performance culture focused on accountability, cross-functional partnership, and continuous improvement through scalable, technology-enabled operations.
- Own lifecycle performance analytics across Acquisition and Retention, translating data-driven insights into actions that improve acquisition efficiency, conversion, and learner outcomes, while providing senior leadership with the intelligence needed to inform strategy, policy, and investment decisions.
- Lead operational readiness and lifecycle design for new partnerships and program launches, including capacity planning, process design, and resource strategy to support successful launch and scale.
- Represent the function in executive and partner-facing forums, delivering clear, data-driven insights and recommendations to influence strategic decisions and strengthen partnership performance.
- Support and facilitate partner-facing operational and performance discussions, including on-site and virtual engagements, to align on outcomes, identify growth opportunities, and drive continuous improvement across the student lifecycle.
- Establish and oversee processes for capturing, synthesizing, and operationalizing Voice of the Learner insights, ensuring qualitative survey feedback is translated into actionable recommendations that improve acquisition, enrollment, retention, and learner experience outcomes.
- Own governance of program and partner-facing data, ensuring processes are in place to maintain accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of information across program materials and partner websites.
- Oversee the development and delivery of partner-facing performance reporting, ensuring acquisition, retention, and forecast pacing insights are clearly communicated and reflected in materials used for key stakeholder engagements.
- Support additional initiatives and responsibilities aligned to business needs and organizational priorities.
General Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in higher education administration, enrollment management, student services, or related operational leadership roles, with exposure to both recruitment (enrollment) and retention functions.
- Demonstrated expertise in university regulations, admissions practices, and student lifecycle policies, with the ability to apply this knowledge across diverse institutional partnerships.
- Proven ability to operate and influence effectively in a highly matrixed, cross-functional environment, partnering with Enrollment, Student Success, Marketing, Analytics, and Technology teams to drive aligned outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills, with experience building trusted relationships and influencing senior leaders and external partners.
- Experience leading and developing teams, with accountability for driving performance through others in a distributed or global operating model.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change and drive operational transformation, including process improvement, standardization, and adoption of scalable systems and automation.
- Strong business and analytical acumen, with a track record of translating complex data into actionable insights that inform strategy and improve conversion, retention, and operational performance.
- Experience operating in fast-paced, high-growth, or evolving environments, with the ability to balance strategic priorities and execution demands.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with experience communicating complex concepts clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational leadership and program management capabilities, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, drive cross-functional initiatives, and deliver results under tight timelines.
This position is based full-time in one of our Boundless Learning offices.
