JOB TITLE: 

Director, Law School Career Services

JOB PURPOSE: 

The Director of Career Services connects law students and alumni with career opportunities throughout Wyoming and beyond. The position develops and implements strategies, policies, and guidelines for career services; administers career counseling and employment initiatives; and cultivates relationships with employers, alumni, and other professional partners. The Director also oversees accreditation-related reporting and maintains systems for tracking and reporting alumni employment outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides comprehensive career counseling and professional development guidance to law students and alumni, exercising independent professional judgment in assessing individual career goals, developing career strategies, and advising on application materials, job-search strategies, interviewing, offer evaluation, professional development, and workplace professionalism.
  • Develops and maintains strategic relationships with legal employers, including law firms, courts and the judiciary, public interest organizations, government agencies, corporations, and other organizations that employ law graduates. Advises employers regarding hiring practices, recruitment strategies, timelines, and competitive employment opportunities, and facilitates connections between employers and students or alumni whose qualifications and interests align with available opportunities.
  • Expands and strengthens the College of Law's employer network by cultivating relationships with established recruiting partners and developing new relationships with legal employers and organizations that have not historically recruited or hired University of Wyoming law graduates.
  • Advises students and alumni regarding career opportunities within the legal profession and the broader range of professional opportunities available to individuals with a legal education. Develops and delivers career education programs, workshops, networking opportunities, and mentoring initiatives in collaboration with employers, alumni, faculty, and staff.
  • Develops and maintains career services resources and professional development materials, including sample application materials, job-search guides, educational resources, and other tools designed to support students and alumni throughout the career development process.
  • Leads the planning, coordination, and execution of virtual and on-campus employer interview programs and other recruitment activities, ensuring effective coordination among students, alumni, employers, and relevant College of Law stakeholders.
  • Evaluates employment trends, student and alumni outcomes, employer needs, and other relevant data to identify opportunities for improvement and recommends strategies and initiatives designed to strengthen career services and improve employment outcomes for law students and graduates.
  • Represents the College of Law in professional, employer, alumni, and community settings related to legal education and career development and serve as a principal point of contact for external career-related partnerships and initiatives.
  • Contributes to the development of policies, procedures, and strategic priorities related to career services, employer engagement, student professional development, and graduate employment outcomes.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Gathers, audits, and accurately reports annual employment outcome data to the American Bar Association and US News and World Report.
  • Assists with the administration of exams.
  • Attends student, alumni, and bar events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • EDUCATION: Juris Doctor
  • EXPERIENCE: 3 years of post JD related job experience
  • LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Complete Application Packet is required to receive full consideration

Experience Evaluation

Experience requirements are evaluated on a full-time equivalent (FTE) basis. Relevant part-time experience will be prorated based on hours worked. For example, two years working an average of 20 hours per week is equivalent to approximately one year of full-time experience.

Applicants must include the average hours worked per week for all current and previous positions. Failure to provide this information may affect the evaluation of qualifications.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

3+ years related work experience

Knowledge of the legal profession, career development practices and recruitment strategies

Experience with Microsoft Suite

Knowledge of records management, confidentiality practices, compliance requirements, and maintaining accurate documentation

WORK LOCATION:

On-campus: This position provides vital support to campus customers, and the successful candidate must be available to work and perform essential job functions on campus, understanding our location is at 7,220 feet above sea level.
