Director, Japan CVS Channel (JG 12)

The Director, Japan CVS Channel is responsible for leading the end-to-end commercial strategy, execution, and performance management for the CVS channel in Japan. The role owns the channel growth agenda across key CVS customers (7-Eleven, FamilyMart, LAWSON) and is accountable for delivering sustainable, profitable growth through disciplined RGMx deployment, customer value creation, and excellence in in-store execution.

This role partners closely with bottling partners in Japan to drive aligned channel strategies, govern system investments, and ensure high-quality market execution. The Director also collaborates cross-functionally—Marketing, Finance, Shopper Marketing, RGMx, Strategy—to translate shopper and customer insights into actionable business plans.

Reporting into the senior CVS or channel leadership team, this role serves as a key commercial integrator, ensuring the Japan system stays ahead of competition and prepares for future growth opportunities in the proximity retail landscape.

Key Responsibilities

1. CVS Channel Growth Strategy

• Develop mid-term and annual CVS growth strategies aligned with OU and system priorities.
• Translate shopper and market dynamics into actionable customer strategies.
• Integrate portfolio, RGMx levers, and occasion-based insights into a cohesive growth plan.

2. System Channel P/L Governance

• Own and deliver channel-level P/L and value creation targets.
• Optimize trade investments, mix, and assortment leveraging RGMx frameworks.
• Ensure disciplined resource allocation to maximize economic return for the system.

3. Key Customer Leadership & Joint Value Creation

• Lead the commercial agenda for 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, and LAWSON.
• Develop Joint Business Plans (JBPs) grounded in customer needs, category growth opportunities, and shared value creation.
• Build strategic customer relationships and influence key decision-makers at senior levels.

4. Category Growth & Shopper-Led Activation

• Translate consumer, shopper, and customer insights into category and channel growth strategies.
• Increase beverage incidence, basket value, and transaction frequency through targeted activation.
• Collaborate with Shopper Marketing to deliver insight-led, conversion-driving activation at all points of connection.

5. System Leadership & Execution Excellence

• Align bottlers on channel strategy, execution priorities, and commercial governance.
• Guide bottler decision-making on route-to-market, pricing/promotion compliance, in-store execution standards, and investment governance.
• Ensure high availability, visibility, and execution consistency across CVS chains.

6. Business Performance Management

• Track performance versus BP and LRP targets; identify risks and deploy course corrections.
• Lead structured reviews with bottlers and internal teams to ensure ongoing alignment and delivery.
• Anticipate competitive threats and deploy proactive commercial responses.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Economics, or related field required.
• 8–12+ years of progressive experience in commercial strategy, customer management, shopper marketing, or trade marketing within FMCG/CPG.
• Experience working with CVS or proximity retail customers strongly preferred.
• Proven experience managing channel strategy, applying RGMx, and leading JBPs.
• Strong understanding of bottler economics, retailer operations, and the Coca-Cola system.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional, large-scale initiatives in a matrix environment.
• Strong analytical capabilities with experience using shopper, POS, or syndicated data.
• Excellent influencing, negotiation, and customer-facing communication skills.
• Business fluency in Japanese and English required.
