Performs highly advanced (senior level) information and communications work involving the collection of information to develop, create and produce content and materials for release to various communications media (broadcast, print, digital, and/or social) and for use by the agency, the general public and other government agencies. Drafts and executes content across traditional and digital media channels, press releases, media statements and other content to execute the agency’s strategic plans. Works under minimal direction of the Director of Public Affairs with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Writes technical and non-technical documents including reports, executive briefings, press releases, presentations, templates, flowcharts, plans, white papers, and user guides.
Edits internal and external agency documents and communications including presentations, executive briefings, email notifications and distributions, security bulletins, website content, and policies for the agency.
Ensures consistent, clear, and complete communications for written and reviewed agency documents through a comprehensive style guide.
Prepares talking points, speeches, one-pagers, bill and legislative overviews, letters, presentations, email notifications, and other documents for the Agency Head.
Assists agency divisions with communications messaging
Formats documents, and creates templates, and other documents that ensure consistency among presentations.
Responds to media inquiries. Prepares talking points and interview preparation. Drafts and distributes press releases. Develops and maintains media contact lists. Handles media calls. Creates digital content and targeted media outreach.
Serves as backup to the Director of Public Affairs as needed, including attending external media interviews with agency staff, and responding to reporter requests for comment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, English, education, or a related filed is generally preferred.
Additional work-related experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis (High school diploma required)
Minimum five (5) years of experience in technical writing; creating and editing documentation, documenting process, creating public presentations and other written materials and communications using plain language techniques.
Skill in interpreting and applying state and federal laws and regulations.
Skill in writing technical and business documentation.
Ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.
Ability to be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism.
Ability to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations to a variety of audiences and/or individuals.
Ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information.
Ability to always work in safe manner, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices.
Demonstrated ability to work on concurrent tasks while effectively prioritizing and coordinating work assignments.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
Ability to understand, follow and convey brief oral and/or written instructions.
Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.

Proficiency in the use of a computer and applicable software necessary to perform work assignments e.g., Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to learn new software/systems.
