About the role

Mater Health has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Information Management professional to join us as our new Director of Information Management on a maximum term, full-time basis for six months.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Private Revenue and Information Management, this role is based at our South Brisbane location. You will provide strategic leadership and direction to ensure best practice management and governance of Mater’s health and corporate information assets.

The Director Information Management will manage the following Mater statewide functions.

  • Health Records
  • Mailroom services
  • Patient Administration Systems (iPM and WebPAS)
  • Clinical Coding - public and private health services
  • Information Governance

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead and continuously enhance Mater’s information management service
  • Collaborate on and influence the development and implementation of strategic plans
  • Set direction for information management policies, standards, practices, and systems
  • Drive a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement
  • Ensure services deliver value to Mater, its people, partners, and the communities we serve
  • Partner with the Senior Director to deliver strategic workforce planning and capacity management
  • Apply high-level analytical and conceptual thinking to provide clear, evidence-based advice
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement improvements to optimise business processes
  • Provide leadership, governance, and direction to support safe, reliable service delivery
  • Oversee operations to ensure exceptional service, compliance, and effective risk management
  • Manage budgets, resources, and operational performance

About you

  • Tertiary qualification in Health Information Management (meeting HIMAA requirements)
  • Extensive leadership experience in healthcare information management, with 10+ years in the field
  • CHIM and/or CHIA certification, with ongoing professional development
  • Strong knowledge of information management standards, service methodologies, and health data classifications
  • Sound understanding of Commonwealth and Queensland legislation, including privacy and information governance
  • Proven ability to lead teams, influence outcomes, and drive organisational success
  • Demonstrated experience in financial, project, and change management
  • Working knowledge of healthcare information systems and technologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organised, self-directed, and adaptable, with the ability to manage priorities and deliver outcomes

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.

When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville. In 2016–17, more than 85,654 children attended our Emergency Department, 322,291 specialist clinic appointments were held which was almost 70,000 more than the previous year, more than 17,000 surgeries were performed and more than 48,552 children were admitted to our wards.
