Job Description

Position Summary

The Director, Hospital Revenue Management is responsible for the leadership, organization, and strategic planning of activities related to hospital billing, insurance collections, cash posting, denial management, variance resolution, and retention of revenue related to insurance overpayments across the health system. This leader provides oversight of quality reviews, education and training, productivity management, process improvement initiatives, and budgeting standards to support and achieve organizational financial goals.

This role provides oversight of Revenue Cycle operations across all Baptist Health Alabama facilities, including Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital, Citizens Hospital, Princeton Hospital, Shelby Hospital, Walker Hospital, and Calhoun Hospital, with responsibility for Patient Access, Financial Clearance, and Self-Pay operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of revenue management functions across more than ten hospital facilities, freestanding emergency departments, and outpatient services.
  • Lead revenue cycle operations, including hospital billing, insurance collections, cash posting, denial management, and accounts receivable management.
  • Partner with operational and clinical departments to reduce billing delays and improve financial outcomes.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging, contractual adjustments, and variance resolution efforts.
  • Collaborate with Revenue Management Analytics to track performance through key performance indicators and operational metrics.
  • Develop and manage project plans for vendor implementations, acquisitions, and transition service agreements.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives and establish departmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and support to managers, assistant managers, leads, and team members.
  • Manage departmental budgets and ensure performance aligns with established financial targets.
  • Communicate regulatory and legislative changes impacting revenue cycle operations.
  • Oversee productivity tracking, reporting, quality initiatives, and special projects within Revenue Management.

Requirements

Education/Training

  • High School Graduate required or
  • Associate and three (3) years of directly related work experience may substitute for Bachelor's degree preferred or
  • Bachelor
  • Ten (10) years of healthcare revenue cycle experience may substitute for Bachelor's degree (in addition to the requirements listed in the Experience section) preferred.

Licensure/Certification

  • HFMA or AAHAM certification preferred.

Experience

  • Five (5) Years of Hospital Revenue Management experience to include three (3) years of leadership experience required.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to revenue cycle operations required.
