Ontario Health is seeking a strategic, collaborative leader to oversee the multidisciplinary Health System Analytics team of 30–40 professionals. The Director will shape high-impact analytic products, tools, methods and models that inform health system planning, performance measurement, policy, resource allocation and quality improvement.
Combining deep expertise in health care data and analytics with exceptional people leadership, the Director will balance ongoing commitments, strategic initiatives and rapid-response priorities; strengthen organizational capability; and translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights for senior leaders and health system partners.
Here is what you will be doing:
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire the team: Provide strategic direction to a multidisciplinary team of 30–40 staff, including managers and individual contributors; foster an open, inclusive and innovative culture; and oversee recruitment, coaching, performance and retention.
- Set the analytics agenda: Partner with senior leaders across clinical programs, Regions and corporate portfolios to establish a rolling product plan aligned with organizational priorities.
- Deliver trusted analytics: Guide the development of high-quality, methodologically sound, documented and replicable products, including multi-year forecasting and capacity-planning models and analyses of performance, trends and variation.
- Advance methods and innovation: Champion leading analytic practices and the responsible adoption of advanced and emerging methods, including artificial intelligence.
- Turn evidence into action: Translate complex results into accessible visualizations, presentations, dashboards and concise reports, providing strategic insights and recommendations to senior health system leaders.
- Build strong partnerships: Collaborate with internal leaders, clinicians, subject matter experts, researchers, the Ministry of Health and other partners to define needs, manage risks and deliver meaningful outcomes.
- Enable sustainable delivery: Oversee work plans, staffing, budgets and financial forecasts, and partner with Digital Excellence in Health on the infrastructure and solutions required to support the team.
- Grow analytic capacity: Sponsor the enterprise-wide Analytics Forum, strengthen skills and collaboration, develop external partnerships, and share Ontario Health’s work through stakeholder forums, publications and conferences.
- Provide enterprise leadership: Represent Health System Analytics on internal and external committees, governance tables and working groups.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Health or Business Administration, Public Health, Epidemiology, Economics, Data Sciences or another relevant field; a Master’s degree or PhD is an asset.
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience, including 3 years experience leading, developing, and supporting teams via projects, programs and/or people leadership preferably within healthcare, public sector, or large complex organizations
- Proven ability to manage large, complex data and analytics operations.
- Working knowledge of Ontario’s health system and the ability to collaborate effectively with senior leaders, clinicians, researchers, scientists, staff and external partners in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Leadership experience in equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism is an asset.
Knowledge and Skills
- Proven ability to manage high-performing teams to excellent, demonstrable results
- Strong judgement, strategic thinking, problem-solving and reasoning skills involving highly complex issues that often have limited precedent.
- Broad understanding of the health care and public sector environment, including changing priorities, trends, legislative requirements and/or other internal and external emerging issues and their potential impacts on goals, priorities and activities within the function and across the organization.
- Exceptional communication skills, including strong facilitation skills and the ability to create and deliver effective presentations to senior level decision-makers.
- Demonstrated relationship-building and stakeholder management skills, including experience leading change initiatives.
