HWI has a fantastic opportunity to join our EHS Team as a Director, Health and Safety.


The Director, Health and Safety is accountable for providing leadership in and creating a vision for HWI's companywide Health and Safety programs and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company objectives including audits, corrective actions, training, and injury prevention.

Responsibilities
• Leading HWI's Health, and Safety program(s) in line with the Calderys global policy, protocols and initiatives; adhering to company and regulatory requirements; remain abreast of safety and health laws and practices in order to be the company’s subject matter expert
• Reviewing, drafting, and implementing companywide Health, and Safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations; partnering with the manufacturing team(s) to remain compliant with all Health, and Safety programs
• Delivering Health and Safety training programs to develop H&S culture, enhancing the industrial team H&S performance in line with the group operational excellence continuous improvement program
• Coordinating and/or conducting facility Health, and Safety compliance reviews and audits; partnering with management in incident investigations, ensuring appropriate processes are followed; developing and monitoring quality and consistency of incident investigation and reporting process
• Developing and controlling department budget
• Providing updates to executive team on health & safety issues and performance
• Collaborating with the global Calderys H&S team to develop and implement policies, protocols, procedures and initiatives
• Take ownership of Key Performance indicators and reporting for HWI Health & Safety

Requirements
  • Requires B.S. degree in Environmental, Safety or related field
  • Requires business travel, up to 40% of time.
  • Knowledge of applicable government regulations, OSHA, workers comp and industry practices
  • Ability to prepare regulatory environmental reports and permits
  • Computer operation skills (MS Office, QAD accounting system or similar products)
  • Ability to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm and a sense of urgency
  • Exceptional analytical, investigative, and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; presentation/training skills are a must
  • The Director, Environmental Health and Safety requires ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience with environmental and health/safety compliance for multiple locations, including program development, implementation, and management.

Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Physical Activity: requires more than 2/3 of time sitting, talking or hearing and using hands/fingers to handle and/or feel; 1/3 to 2/3 of time standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and tasting or smelling.
  • Lifting: requires lifting up to 10 pounds less than 1/3 of the time.
  • Vision: requires close and peripheral vision.
  • Environment: requires 1/3 to 2/3 of time working in an office setting with limited exposure, wet or humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts, in high precarious places, exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat, extreme cold, vibration, explosives or at risk of electrical shock or radiation.
  • Noise: Requires exposure to loud noise.
