About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Director, Merchant Acquiring Non-Financial Risk to lead non-financial risk oversight for ANZ’s Merchant Acquiring portfolio within Transaction Banking.

This is a highly influential leadership role, partnering with Product, Sales, Operations, Technology and Risk leaders to enable safe, sustainable and customer-focused growth across a complex and evolving payments environment.

You will provide trusted risk leadership across the end-to-end product lifecycle, ensuring material non-financial risks are identified, assessed, managed and reported within appetite while supporting strategic growth and innovation. The role also plays a critical part in strengthening the control environment, enhancing governance, and driving risk maturity across the Merchant Acquiring business.

What will your day look like?

In this role, you will:

  • Act as the trusted non-financial risk advisor to the Merchant Acquiring business, providing guidance on product strategy, client solutions and change initiatives.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment and monitoring of material non-financial risks across the Merchant Acquiring product lifecycle.
  • Drive uplift in controls, governance, risk indicators and management information to strengthen transparency and accountability.
  • Provide risk leadership for new product development, product enhancements, strategic initiatives and client implementations.
  • Support strong product governance through executive reporting, decision support and issue escalation for senior stakeholders.
  • Partner closely with Product, Operations, Technology, Compliance, Legal, Financial Crime and Risk teams to deliver aligned risk outcomes.
  • Embed a strong risk culture by coaching stakeholders and enhancing first-line risk ownership and capability.

What will you bring?

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Deep experience in non-financial risk management within a large and complex financial services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Merchant Acquiring products, client journeys, servicing models and the end-to-end product lifecycle.
  • Expertise across governance, risk assessments, controls, issues management, incident management and risk reporting.
  • Proven ability to provide credible advice and constructive challenge to senior product, operations and technology stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting product approvals, strategic change programs and implementation risk assessments within regulated banking environments.
  • Outstanding communication and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex risk issues into clear recommendations and actions.
  • Strong stakeholder management capability and experience driving sustainable risk outcomes across diverse business and control functions.
