Job Description

500M+ downloads. 80M+ monthly users. A decade of building – and we’re still accelerating.

Flo is the world’s #1 health & fitness app worldwide on a mission to build a better future for female health. Backed by a $200M investment led by General Atlantic, we became the first product of our kind to reach a $1B valuation in 2024 – and we’re not slowing down.

With 7M paid subscribers and the highest-rated experience in the App Store’s health category, we’ve spent 10 years earning trust at scale. Now, we’re building the next generation of digital health – AI-powered, privacy-first, clinically backed – to help our users know their body better.

The job

Flo is looking for a Director, Head of Global PR & Communications to shape how the world understands our company, mission, and impact.

You will lead Flo’s global external communications strategy across corporate, consumer, product, scientific, and executive communications. You will build influential narratives that strengthen Flo’s position as a category-defining women’s health company, deepen trust in our brand, and raise the visibility of women’s health.

This is both a strategic and hands-on role. You will advise senior executives on complex issues while building media relationships, developing stories, preparing spokespeople, and leading responses when the stakes are high.

The ideal candidate will bring the judgment and credibility required to communicate responsibly at the intersection of healthcare, technology, privacy, science, culture, and public policy.

What you’ll do

Lead Flo’s communications strategy

  • Develop a global PR and external communications strategy aligned with Flo’s brand, product, commercial, and company priorities.
  • Create a differentiated corporate narrative that positions Flo as a leader in women’s health, consumer technology, and medically credible digital health.
  • Lead communications across corporate reputation, product launches, scientific research, partnerships, executive visibility, and thought leadership.
  • Identify the conversations Flo should lead and establish clear objectives and measures of success.

Build reputation through powerful storytelling

  • Strengthen trust in Flo among consumers, healthcare professionals, media, partners, policymakers, and other influential stakeholders.
  • Build relationships with leading journalists and opinion leaders across health, technology, business, science, and consumer media.
  • Develop a consistent pipeline of proactive stories that extends beyond company announcements and product launches.
  • Translate clinical research, product innovation, and proprietary insights into compelling, accessible stories without compromising medical credibility.
  • Partner with Medical Affairs, Science and Research, Privacy, Security, Legal, Product, and Public Policy to communicate complex and sensitive topics accurately.
  • Act as a senior company spokesperson and prepare executives and subject-matter experts for media engagements.

Advise leaders and protect Flo’s reputation

  • Serve as a trusted communications adviser to the CEO, CMO, executive leadership team, and other senior stakeholders.
  • Build distinctive thought leadership platforms for Flo’s executives, doctors, scientists, and researchers.
  • Lead issues management and crisis communications, including scenario planning, escalation protocols, response strategies, and spokesperson preparation.
  • Anticipate reputational risks across reproductive health, medical claims, data privacy, AI, and public policy.
  • Provide clear, composed counsel under pressure, balancing transparency, empathy, legal considerations, medical accuracy, and the needs of Flo’s community.

Lead the function

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing global communications team.
  • Manage PR agencies and specialist partners across priority markets.
  • Own the communications budget and allocate resources against the highest-impact priorities.
  • Establish strong global processes while allowing for local cultural and media nuance.
  • Partner with the People team to ensure consistency across external and employee communications.

What you’ll bring

  • Significant progressive experience in public relations and corporate communications within a high-profile, consumer-facing organization.
  • A track record of leading global communications strategies that strengthen reputation and support business growth.
  • Experience in digital health, healthcare, consumer technology, or another complex and highly regulated sector.
  • Deep expertise in corporate reputation, consumer PR, executive communications, media relations, issues management, and crisis communications.
  • Strong relationships with relevant global media, or a demonstrated ability to build them.
  • Experience translating technical, medical, scientific, or data-led subjects into clear and compelling narratives.
  • Sound judgment when navigating sensitive issues, incomplete information, and public scrutiny.
  • Experience advising CEOs and senior executives, with the confidence to offer constructive challenge.
  • Strong people leadership and experience managing teams, agencies, budgets, and international programs.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • A data-informed approach to communications planning and evaluation.
  • The ability to move between long-term strategy and hands-on delivery in a fast-moving environment.

What will make you successful at Flo

You are an ambitious storyteller who understands that trust is earned through substance, consistency, and action. You combine high standards with pragmatism, remain calm under pressure, and build strong relationships across disciplines and geographies. You are curious about science, technology, culture, and the lived experiences of Flo’s community, and you care deeply about improving women’s health.

How we work

We’re a mission-led, product-driven team. We move fast, stay focused and take ownership – from brief to build to impact. Debate is encouraged. Decisions are shared. We care about craft, ship with purpose, and always raise the bar.

You’ll be working with people who take their work seriously, not themselves. It takes commitment, resilience, and the drive to keep going when things get tough. Because better health outcomes are worth it.

What you'll get

We support impact with meaningful reward. Here’s what that looks like:

  • Competitive salary and annual reviews
  • Opportunity to participate in Flo’s performance incentive scheme
  • Paid holiday, sick leave, and female health leave
  • Enhanced parental leave and pay for maternity, paternity, same-sex and adoptive parents
  • Accelerated professional growth through world-changing work and learning support
  • In-person collaboration and work in a hybrid model, with 3 days per week spent in the office
  • 5-week fully paid sabbatical at 5-year Floversary
  • Flo Premium for friends & family, plus more health, pension and wellbeing perks

Diversity, equity and inclusion

Our strength is in our differences. At Flo, hiring is based on merit, skill and what you bring to the role – nothing else. We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds, communities and identities. Read our privacy notice for job applicants
