Job Description

Ready to shape trade finance growth for Energy and Materials clients?

Why HSBC

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.

The Role

As Director, GTS Sales, Energy and Materials you’ll shape HSBC’s trade finance strategy for Swiss Energy and Materials clients and translate it into sustainable revenue and asset growth. Working within Global Trade Solutions (GTS) you’ll structure large and complex payables, receivables and trade loan transactions using risk mitigation instruments across multiple geographies and products. You’ll deepen existing client relationships and build new ones across the sector while ensuring fair outcomes for customers and maintaining strong risk discipline. The role includes dual reporting to the Head of GTS, Switzerland and the European Head of Energy and Materials, GTS. Success means a stronger portfolio in Switzerland, improved sector penetration through relevant solutions and consistent delivery against return and risk expectations.

What you'll be doing

  • Define and execute the trade finance growth strategy for Energy and Materials in Switzerland aligned to GTS strategy
  • Structure large and complex transactions across payables, receivables, prepayments, PXFs, BBFs and core trade products
  • Assess client and deal risk dynamics and embed appropriate mitigants to deliver sustainable risk-acceptable structures
  • Shape sector-specific solutions that meet evolving working capital and trade finance needs across the client eco-system
  • Build and deepen senior client relationships across C-suite, Treasury and Procurement to strengthen wallet penetration
  • Partner with portfolio management and distribution teams to set distribution strategy, improve balance sheet velocity and meet return requirements
  • Embed a robust escalation framework to unblock deals and enable replication of solutions across global GTS sites
  • Represent HSBC at industry events, trade forums and client roundtables to build market presence and share sector insights

What we're looking for

  • Bring extensive knowledge of GTS products, structured trade solutions and the trade finance regulatory environment
  • Demonstrate proven experience structuring large complex deals across payables, receivables and trade loans using risk mitigation instruments
  • Show established experience in Trade Asset Distribution from large-scale origination through sell-down
  • Apply strong understanding of global commodity trends, supply chains and Energy and Materials sector dynamics
  • Offer corporate or wholesale banking experience with a track record of delivering sales outcomes for Energy and Materials clients
  • Navigate multi-geography and multi-product transactions with sound judgement on credit and complex structured facilities
  • Communicate effectively with senior executives across clients and internal stakeholders in a matrixed environment
  • Travel as needed to support client coverage and regional collaboration

Building trade finance impact in Switzerland

This role is an opportunity to shape HSBC’s Energy and Materials trade finance agenda in Switzerland and influence how we support clients across their working capital and supply chain needs. You’ll work closely with local, regional and global stakeholders to deliver complex solutions and strengthen sector expertise across the network. If you want to build sustainable growth through thoughtful structuring and deep client partnerships we’d welcome your application.
