Job Description

The Opportunity:

The CTO team is seeking a visionary, hands-on engineering leader to design, build, and scale HSBC Agent Platform as a core capability within the Group AI Platform. This role will deliver secure, reusable and high-performance platform services that enables team across the bank to build, deploy and operate agentic and generative AI solutions consistently, overing orchestration, tool integration, memory, evaluation and governance-by-design. You’ll set the technical direction, drive reliability and adoption at scale and ensure the platform meets enterprise standard for performance, resilience, security and controls.

What you’ll do:

  • Define the long-term technical vision and roadmap for the Agent platform in collaboration with product management team
  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of a robust, scalable, and high-performance Agent platform
  • Stay at the cutting edge of AI and agent movement in the industry, and adapt the agent platform to leverage the technical evolving in the industry
  • Work closely with technology teams across business lines to understand their requirements and ensure the platform empowers them to build agents efficiently
  • Integrate agent platform as part of the Group AI Platform which spans on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure
  • Build and manage a high-performing global team of ML SMEs and full stack engineers, to ensure the AI capabilities are built fit for purpose with high quality
  • Establish engineering best practices, including continuous integration / continuous delivery pipeline workflows, automation testing framework, and monitoring systems for AI applications, and ensure continuous improvement of engineering practices
  • Implement observability, reliability, and performance optimizations for agent platform in production
  • Ensure compliance to architecture principle, technical standards, security requirements and software development life cycle controls

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related subject area
  • 15+ of experience in developing and implementing software solutions, with 5+ years in technical leadership roles.
  • Hands-on experience in design and development of agentic AI solutions
  • Proven and deep experience in designing, building, and delivering a large-scale Agent platform
  • Deep understanding of the agent paradigm, including agent planning, short-term and long-term memory, tool use, agent orchestration and agent evaluation
  • Experience with high code and low code agent platform
  • Strong experience in designing and building scalable and resilient platform
  • Proven ability in building and managing high performing teams of AI SME and full stack engineers
  • Solid hands-on development skills in programming language such as Java, Python, and CI/CD tools, automation testing, and observability
  • Proficiency in effective stakeholder management, and capable of effectively articulating AI capabilities, and influencing both business and technology leaders
  • Experience working in Agile development teams with excellent collaboration skills
