Job Description

The Director, Government Finance and Accounting will:

  • Manage the human, physical and financial systems of the Government Finance and Accounting Branch.
  • Provide strategic direction and advice on the management of the whole of government financial accounting and reporting activities.
  • Maintain the financial records of the Public Account, including financial and statistical reporting and management of Treasury’s departmental and whole-of-government financial activities.
  • Manage the State’s financial assets investment and borrowing strategy and activities.

About You

You will have a clearly demonstrated capability to leading and managing a large team of professionals across a diverse range of policy related issues in the face of competing demands, tight deadlines and with limited resources.

You will have highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills with a proven track record of successfully influencing strategic outcomes across multiple and diverse stakeholder groups while retaining high levels of trust and credibility.

You will also have the ability to provide high level policy direction and strategic leadership on complex and technical issues related to whole of government accounting and financial reporting.

About the Branch

As part of the Budget and Finance Division, the Government Finance and Accounting Branch monitors and reports on finances at both an agency and whole-of-government level. The branch also implements financial management policy advice for the General Government Sector.

Period of Appointment

Appointment to the role is on a fixed term five (5) year basis.

Desirable Requirements

Completion of relevant tertiary or industry qualifications and/or professional affiliation is highly desirable but not essential.
