The Director of EH&S is responsible for overseeing and managing globally all aspects of an organization's environmental, health and safety programs, including direct leadership of environmental, occupational health and safety, and related compliance functions, driving proactive culture and processes and systems to support efficient and effective management. Develops environmental, health and safety policies and procedures, such as but not limited to chemical safety, risk assessments, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention, travel safety, hazardous material and waste and building safety. Globally owns EH&S compliance training strategy and governance; delegates specialized environmental compliance training to environmental program leadership. Owns overall program design and communication for inspections of all areas, including labs, to ensure compliance with global occupational safety and health standards, as well as promoting a culture of safety, sustainability and environmental stewardship. Monitors performance of Environmental, Health and Safety programs and regulatory compliance with all global regulations and manages contact with the appropriate EH&S government agencies. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the global EH&S team.

Leadership & Strategy:
Develop and implement a comprehensive EH&S strategy that aligns with the company’s overall goals and objectives
Provide leadership and direction to the EH&S team, fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility across all levels of the organization
Serve as a subject matter expert and advisor to senior leadership on EHS-related matters, ensuring alignment with corporate sustainability and operational objectives
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure that the organization is in full compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.) globally
Oversee the proper handling of hazardous waste, proper packaging and safe handling procedures
Lead the preparation for and coordination of audits, inspections, and assessments by regulatory agencies
Keep current with changes to environmental, health, and safety laws, ensuring timely updates to policies, procedures, and systems
Manage regulatory filings and compliance dates, ensuring timely completion of tasks
Risk Management & Hazard Mitigation:
Identify, assess, and prioritize environmental, health, and safety risks to the organization, developing and implementing mitigation strategies
Oversee the creation and implementation of safety programs, procedures, and guidelines to address potential hazards, driving risk assessments and proactive remediation
Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the development of corrective and preventive actions for accidents and near-misses
Ensure all equipment (including forklifts) is properly maintained and used safely
Drive safety culture around risk assessments, including active participation across the organization and with leaders. Ensure EH&S is owned by every employee and leader for compliance and proactive leadership
Lead requirements and develop programs globally for field and travel health and safety programs
Develop statements of work and manage vendors to provide key services in EH&S globally
Provide governance and oversight for product stewardship requirements, including Safety Data Sheet creation and environmental compliance activities executed by the Environmental function
Training & Education:
Develop and deliver EH&S training programs globally for employees at all levels, ensuring that all team members understand the importance of EH&S standards and know how to adhere to them
Ensure online training is built and delivered as appropriate
Promote a continuous learning culture, encouraging employees to take ownership of their own safety and environmental responsibilities
Sustainability Initiatives:
Establish enterprise environmental sustainability strategy and priorities and oversee execution through environmental program leadership
Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of activities, incidents, training, and regulatory compliance
Prepare regular EHS performance reports for senior management and relevant stakeholders, providing analysis of key performance indicators and making recommendations for improvement
Continuous Improvement:
Drive a culture of continuous improvement in EH&S, utilizing data, employee feedback, and industry best practices to refine and optimize processes
Implement EHS technologies and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy in monitoring and reporting
Team Development & Management:
Recruit, train, and develop staff to ensure they have the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to perform effectively
Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and facilitate ongoing professional development for the teams
Emergency Response & Preparedness:
Develop and maintain emergency response plans for potential environmental or safety incidents
Ensure that the company is adequately prepared to handle emergencies, including spill containment, fire hazards, and industrial accidents with documented plans and tabletop drills incorporated into the training/preparedness
BS/BA degree and 12+ years of relevant experience OR
Masters and 10+ years of related experience OR
PhD and 7+ years of related experience
Extensive previous managerial experiences also required
Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex EH&S concepts to non-experts
Analytical mindset, with the ability to assess risk and make data-driven decisions
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to drive change and innovation
Familiarity with EH&S software systems and reporting tools
Certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) is preferred
A proactive, results-oriented individual who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
High level of integrity, professionalism, and dedication to safety and environmental stewardship
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $175,600.00-$239,000.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 35% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
