The Director of Global AI Product Enablement- Medical Affairs position is a high-visibility, high-impact role at the center of Gilead’s Medical Affairs AI transformation.
As Director of Global AI Product Enablement, you will own the end-to-end product strategy, roadmap, and business value realization of AI capabilities across the Medical Affairs Technology (MAT) portfolio.
You will be responsible for shaping and executing a multi-year AI product vision that translates emerging technologies—such as RAG, agentic AI, and LLM-based solutions—into scalable, high-impact products that address critical Medical Affairs needs. This includes identifying the right problems to solve, prioritizing investments, and ensuring solutions deliver measurable business outcomes and adoption.
This role operates without a direct team and requires strong influence-based leadership across a global, matrixed organization. Success depends on your ability to align senior stakeholders, define clear product priorities, and partner effectively with IT and external vendors who execute delivery.
You will partner closely with the ED of MAT and leaders across GMSO, Medical Affairs, IT, Legal, Medical Governance, and Compliance. Your ability to drive product adoption, scale solutions, and deliver measurable impact across Medical Affairs is critical to success.
What You’ll Do:
Own the Medical Affairs AI Product Strategy & Roadmap
Build, maintain, and socialize a 3-year AI product roadmap aligned to Medical Affairs strategic priorities
Prioritize use cases based on business value, user impact, feasibility, and scalability
Translate strategy into product roadmaps with defined outcomes, KPIs, and adoption targets
Partner with IT and continuously evaluate the AI landscape (LLMs, agents, multimodal tools) and recommend where to invest, pilot, or scale based on business needs
Drive Product Outcomes & Value Realization
Own end-to-end accountability for business outcomes and value delivery of AI products across the MAT portfolio
Define and track KPIs for adoption, user engagement, and business impact, ensuring solutions deliver measurable improvements in Medical Affairs workflows
Translate business needs into clear product requirements, prioritized backlogs, and user-centric use cases
Partner with IT and delivery teams to ensure solutions are built in alignment with product vision, success criteria, and user needs
Maintain a portfolio-level view focused on impact, adoption, and value realization, enabling informed prioritization and investment decisions
Lead AI Product Innovation & Technology Strategy
Serve as the business owner for AI product decisions, evaluating tools and platforms based on their ability to deliver business value
Establish structured frameworks to assess capability, compliance, scalability, and integration fit
Partner with IT, security, and compliance teams to ensure solutions meet enterprise standards while maintaining speed and agility
Build strong relationships with key vendors and stay ahead of emerging capabilities that can drive competitive advantage
Drive Adoption, Change Management & AI Fluency
Champion AI adoption across Medical Affairs, ensuring solutions move from concept to sustained usage
Engage directly with business leaders to co-create, prototype, and refine AI products
Design and lead enablement programs that move teams from awareness to active adoption and value realization
Act as a trusted advisor to leadership, clearly articulating what AI can and cannot deliver in a regulated environment
Promote a culture of data- and AI-driven decision-making across the organization
What You Bring:
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field + 12+ years of experience in AI, data, or digital product roles OR
Master’s degree and 10+ years of experience in AI, data, or digital product roles OR
PharmD/ PhD and 8+ years of experience in AI, data, or digital product roles
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or equivalent) in a technical or business discipline
Experience in life sciences, Medical Affairs, clinical, or commercial domains
Proven track record of owning AI or digital product strategy, roadmap, and value delivery in a regulated environment
Hands-on familiarity with modern AI technologies (RAG, LLMs, agentic frameworks) with the ability to translate capabilities into business solutions
Experience working with IT and system integrators as delivery partners, while maintaining accountability for product direction and outcomes
Demonstrated ability to influence and align senior stakeholders across a global, matrixed organization
Strong understanding of AI governance, compliance, and responsible AI principles
Experience defining and tracking product success metrics and business impact
Familiarity with Medical Affairs workflows and the ability to translate domain needs into scalable AI products

The salary range for this position is: $226,185.00 - $292,710.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
