IQ Fiber is seeking a Director, GIS responsible for owning the company's geospatial strategy, function, and team across its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) expansion markets. This role establishes GIS as an enterprise decision-support capability that drives disciplined capital deployment, accelerates design-to-build cycles, and supports operational excellence across Engineering, Construction, Commercial, and Network Operations.
The Director, GIS operates as a senior leader and partner to senior leadership — setting the geospatial vision and data governance standards, building and developing the GIS team, and ensuring geospatial data, workflows, and reporting capabilities scale effectively as IQ Fiber expands into new markets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Own and execute IQ Fiber's enterprise GIS strategy and roadmap, aligning geospatial capabilities with capital deployment, market selection, and network expansion priorities.
- Build, lead, and develop the GIS team, setting performance standards, growing technical capabilities, and scaling the function to support multi-market growth.
- Partner with senior leadership and cross-functional teams across Engineering, Construction, Commercial, and Network Operations to position GIS as a core decision-support capability.
- Establish and govern enterprise GIS data standards, including data governance frameworks, QA/QC plans, metadata, version control, and data-integrity standards across all spatial datasets.
- Direct the development of advanced spatial models for market selection, capital allocation, and density and demographic forecasting, including near-net and on-net commercial passings analysis and cost-per-passing optimization.
- Drive the design and maintenance of ETL workflows that ingest, validate, and standardize spatial data, leveraging ArcGIS Notebooks, Arcade scripting, and enterprise geodatabases to advance automation and scalability.
- Lead complex, multi-market GIS initiatives from feasibility through construction, defining technical approaches, delivery schedules, and quality standards.
- Ensure GIS integrates effectively with construction management, PMO, and financial tracking platforms to support end-to-end visibility from feasibility through construction.
- Oversee the production of automated dashboards, spatial reports, and polished cartographic products that translate geospatial analysis into actionable business insights for senior leadership.
- Manage GIS technology investments, vendor relationships, and tooling decisions to ensure the platform scales cost-effectively with the business.
- Develop and monitor GIS performance metrics that demonstrate impact on capital efficiency, serviceability accuracy, and design-to-build cycle time.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Engineering, Planning, Natural Sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of progressive GIS experience, including direct team or function leadership.
- Demonstrated experience leading GIS teams and managing complex, multi-stakeholder programs, including scope definition, scheduling, QA, and stakeholder coordination.
- Advanced proficiency in ArcGIS Pro/Desktop, ArcGIS Server/Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and related extensions.
- Experience designing and maintaining ETL workflows and enterprise geodatabases; FME preferred.
- Experience in telecommunications, utilities, broadband, or infrastructure development preferred.
- Experience supporting high-growth, multi-state expansion environments preferred.
- Esri certification, GISP, AICP, PE, or related professional certification a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365.
- Ability to set geospatial strategy and translate complex spatial analysis into clear insights and recommendations for senior leadership.
- Ability to lead and develop technical teams in a fast-paced, multi-market environment.
- Ability to collaborate across Engineering, Construction, Commercial, and Network Operations to drive cross-functional adoption.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with sound judgment and integrity.
What Success Looks Like
- GIS is established as an enterprise decision-support capability, with reliable, decision-ready insights consistently improving capital allocation, market selection, and network optimization across FTTH expansion markets.
- A high-performing GIS team is built and developed, with the function scaled to support multi-market growth and increasing cross-functional demand.
- Enterprise GIS data governance and QA/QC standards are established and maintained, keeping passings, serviceability, and network asset datasets accurate, current, and trusted across the business.
- GIS operations are automated and scaled through repeatable ETL workflows, scripting, and dashboards and maps built for senior leadership that shorten design-to-build cycles.
- GIS is positioned as a strategic, cross-functional partner, with strong collaboration across Engineering, Construction, Commercial, and Network Operations driving operational excellence.
- Geospatial investments and tooling decisions deliver measurable improvements in capital efficiency and design-to-build cycle time.
