Guided by our core values of integrity, excellence, accountability, and teamwork, we foster a safe, inclusive, and rewarding workplace where a talented, experienced team works together to deliver reliable operations, responsible mining, and long-term value to its shareholders and host communities.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Regional Vice President Exploration, Canada, the Director of Geoscience provides strategic and technical leadership across Equinox’s Canadian exploration portfolio, driving the quality, consistency and timely availability of geological information required to support exploration and resource decisions. The role establishes and advances portfolio-wide approaches to geological data and technical practices and provides senior oversight of geological interpretation and models, enabling informed and consistent decision-making across operating mines, development projects and exploration programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and technical leadership to Canadian exploration and site geology teams in developing and reviewing Exploration Program Plans (EPPs), assessing material risks and opportunities, and recommending portfolio priorities and program adjustments to support resource growth, new discoveries, annual budget decisions and the reduction of geological risk.
  • Establish and oversee portfolio-wide standards for geological data, interpretations and models, providing senior technical review, challenge and sign-off as appropriate, and determining when independent third-party review is warranted to strengthen technical assurance and mitigate risk.
  • Provide senior geological interpretation and technical guidance to support resource estimates and block models, and review exploration-related technical disclosures and press release content.
  • Review and sign off on applicable operational and technical reports as a Qualified Person, where designated and qualified under NI 43-101.
  • Drive continuous improvement in exploration practices by evaluating emerging technologies and methodologies and developing strategic research partnerships with governmental, academic and other external institutions to advance exploration effectiveness and geological understanding.
  • Assess technical capability needs across exploration and geology teams and support professional development, coaching and knowledge sharing to strengthen geological interpretation, modelling and other priority technical capabilities.
  • Assist geological and exploration due diligence for corporate development opportunities, providing senior technical assessment and recommendations on exploration potential, asset quality and geological risk, and representing the exploration function in technical discussions with external specialists, advisors and other stakeholders.
  • Identify and escalate material geological risks, opportunities and technical issues requiring senior management attention, and provide recommendations to support informed exploration and investment decisions.
  • Build effective relationships across site and corporate functions, including Exploration, Technical Services and Corporate Development, and with external technical specialists.

Required Experience and Skill Set

  • 15+ years of progressive exploration experience, including at least 10 years in the exploration and mining industry and experience across regional or global environments.
  • 5+ years of experience leading or providing senior technical direction to exploration teams in generative and near-mine environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale exploration programs, including target generation, assessment, prioritization and exploration project pipelines.
  • Proven track record of supporting exploration success, discoveries and resource growth.
  • Extensive experience across multiple deposit types, preferably including orogenic gold, epithermal and VMS systems.
  • Strong expertise in geological and structural modelling, exploration data management and interpretation, GIS, targeting, and QA/QC.
  • Experience establishing or managing collaborative geoscientific research programs with external organizations.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and communicate across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Advanced proficiency with exploration and geological software, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, Leapfrog and ioGAS.
  • Ability to regularly travel to project locations and nationwide.

Certifications

  • Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) designation in Canada, or eligibility for designation.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or related discipline.
  • Master’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field is an asset.

The expected salary for this position ranges from $190,400.00 to $240,700.00.
