Job Description

Riot Games was established in 2006 by entrepreneurial gamers who believe that player-focused game development can result in great games. In 2009, Riot released its debut title League of Legends to critical and player acclaim. As the most played video game in the world, over 100 million play every month. Players form the foundation of our community and it’s for them that we continue to evolve and improve the League of Legends experience.

We’re looking for humble but ambitious, razor-sharp professionals who can teach us a thing or two. We promise to return the favor. Like us, you take play seriously; you’re passionate about games. We embrace those who see things differently, aren’t afraid to experiment, and who have a healthy disregard for constraints.

That's where you come in.

As the Director, Game Production in the China Studio, you will ensure that the people, processes, and technology across the studio come together to deliver an operationally excellent R&D ecosystem. You will develop and execute the operational strategy for the studio’s portfolio, defining and driving how work is delivered across incubation and development teams. You will translate audience needs, business direction, team health, and critical elements of early-stage product development into clear, actionable systems and practices.

You will work closely with the China Studio Head, Executive Producers, and project-level Operations staff, while serving as the primary strategic bridge to global Riot functions. You will ensure the studio operates with strong information symmetry, global alignment, and effective support from Riot’s central organizations. You will report to the China Studio Head

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the operational strategy for China Studio, aligning people, processes, and technology across a portfolio of R&D teams
  • Serve as the primary strategic liaison between China Studio and global Riot functions, ensuring alignment, transparency, and access to shared resources
  • Establish and standardize development frameworks, pipelines, and operating models from incubation through production readiness
  • Drive portfolio-level planning, including resource allocation, workforce strategy, and scaling across multiple projects
  • Build and enforce accountability systems to ensure teams meet milestones, proactively identify risks, and address scope, schedule, and budget challenges
  • Partner with central teams to define and maintain the operational quality bar, ensuring teams are equipped with effective tools, workflows, and support
  • Lead, mentor, and align Operations leaders embedded across projects to ensure consistent standards and collaboration across the studio
  • Foster a high-performing, inclusive team environment that supports healthy team dynamics, effective feedback, and strong cross-team collaboration

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in game production, development operations, or related leadership roles
  • Proven experience defining and driving operational strategy at a studio or portfolio level
  • Demonstrated ability to lead within complex, multi-regional organizations and influence senior stakeholders
  • Strong expertise in development methodologies, including iterative development and structured phase-based frameworks
  • Experience building scalable systems for planning, tracking, and delivering across multiple concurrent projects
  • Track record of managing cross-functional partnerships with Finance, Technology, and centralized support organizations
  • Experience leading and developing senior individual contributors or discipline leaders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities in high-ambiguity environments

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience operating within a global “hub and spoke” development model
  • Background supporting early-stage product development and incubation environments
  • Familiarity with evolving development practices such as AI-assisted workflows or distributed development models
  • Experience optimizing co-development or external partner strategies
  • Exposure to studio-level organizational design, scaling, and long-term capability planning

For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes the delight of players. We will be looking at your past studies, experience, and your personal relationship with games. If you embody player empathy and care about players' experiences, this could be your role!
