Job Description

As Director, Financial Performance, you support the property and casualty insurance sector in cross-functional and strategic financial mandates, leveraging your extensive knowledge of the sector. You’re responsible for overseeing activities stemming from the sector’s strategic directions and for developing and implementing your team’s master plan. In-depth knowledge of the property and casualty insurance sector and a strategic mindset are essential. You have an in-depth understanding of performance drivers, financial projections, financial statements, the cost structure of DGIG and its competitors and actuarial matters, as well as knowledge of business lines, products and distribution. You draw on your ability to develop talent, drive results and build networks to effectively manage people and performance, produce reports and ensure member/client satisfaction. More specifically, you will be required to:

  • Help the vice-president set directions and objectives
  • Develop and implement the administrative department’s objectives and mandate based on strategic issues and target results
  • Ensure that action plans for administrative units under your responsibility are carried out, with a focus on performance management
  • Establish management and communication practices that support change management, talent attraction and retention, skills development, employee engagement and diversity, in keeping with Desjardins’s values
  • Define and oversee the implementation of activities related to the unit’s services and ensure that projects under your responsibility (including cross-functional initiatives) are carried out in a way that maximizes business results and ensures member/client satisfaction
  • Support the sector and its business lines in their strategic decisions, performance management, budgets, financial plan and expected results: Lead the budgeting process for business sectors and integration with the strategic plan and the Desjardins-wide process
  • Support the business sector by developing cost-benefit analyses that help management make informed decisions
  • Support the business sector’s growth ambitions by developing a financial structure or supporting the creation of partnerships help it more effectively meet its business objectives
  • On an ongoing basis, ensure the efficient and effective management and use of resources and processes
  • Support the sector’s inorganic growth strategy.

What you bring to the table

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field
  • A minimum of ten years of relevant experience in finance and accounting, including 5 years managing specialized professionals and managers
  • Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
  • Academic specialization in finance, mathematics or actuarial science
  • Professional designation (CPA, CFA or actuarial designation)
  • Knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec
  • Advanced proficiency of English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients
