Job Description

The Director, Financial Operations Analysis is central to supporting the short and long-term strategic growth of the Greater China Continent, Marriott International. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance Operations, Payment Solutions & Partnership, Greater China, the Director will be the primary point of contact for all questions, concerns, operation analytical requests, and information relating to hotel finance operations, accounting and procedures. The position also supports analytical work for Consumer Operations – including and not limited to Marriott Bonvoy Program, Digital Platforms, and provide critical financial advisory and modelling support to internal business partners at Enterprise Partnerships who are driving the development of key loyalty partnerships in Greater China. The Director, Financial Operations Analysis position will help drive opportunities and key initiatives by leveraging both qualitative methods and quantitative analysis to aid executive management decision making. Furthermore, this position will develop processes, tools and plans that contribute to the optimization of operational performance.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

  • Develop, supervise, and execute finance and operational initiatives in alignment to the Greater China Continent and Global short- and long-range strategic planning targets. Manages all steps of major projects or processes and adjusts planned approach as required.
  • Actively monitors operational and financial performance to anticipate and meet the needs of leadership. Applies thorough understanding of key business processes to effectively anticipate and address the longer-term implications of decisions/actions.
  • Assess market, regional, and continent forecast and actual performances with respect to RevPAR, Food & Beverage and ancillary revenues, departmental / gross operating profit, and net owner return. Lead the hotel benchmarking process to discover potential opportunity for hotel financial improvement. Proactively communicate findings to senior leaders if trends and more importantly, potential risks, are identified.
  • A high level of knowledge regarding Marriott’s Programs & Services. Lead the Continent through the Annual Initiatives Review. Also work with Development to better understand Marriott’s Affiliation models and assist them with developing cost models and approaches for new brands as they are added to the Continent.
  • Provides proactive support to Continent, Regional, Area Finance teams to ensure the appropriate focus and resources are utilized in order to maximize value and reduce exposure for Marriott International.
  • Create value by challenging existing processes, encouraging innovation and driving necessary change.
  • Oversight on the pre-opening budget and working capital estimate requests from the Greater China Development and Operations Finance Teams. Actively seek for enhancements to track and report actual pre-opening expenses. Ongoing refinement of the preopening tool to reflect present operational requirements.
  • Participate in Continent-wide and cross-functional initiatives to support a variety of projects with different types of scope.
  • Continent champion on finance & accounting principles, operational guidance and procedures, and reporting matters. Leverage experience and knowledge in the Uniform Systems of Accounting in the Lodging Industry (USALI), corporate accounting policies, operational procedures, and internal control requirements. Provide direction, communication and support for any updates and/or changes in the USALI, corporate policies and operational procedures to the hotels.
  • Partner with Business Analysis support from Headquarter and other continents to share knowledge, best practices, and leverage tools.
  • Proactively explore internal and external tools, services, resources, and platforms to drive efficiencies in operating procedures, to the extent that benefits not only the Finance but other organizations in the company. Drives for changes in work products and processes that will improve departmental efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Support payment solution projects that are unique to Greater China. Examples of current initiative are the Scan to Order, Digital Fapiao, Digital Payments and Central Payments Project.
  • Support Enterprise Partnerships on the financial evaluation of potential airline partnerships, co-brand card initiatives and every day earn partnership initiatives, being responsible for the relevant financial modelling / analysis and day-to-day communications with the Enterprise Partnerships team, delivering robust recommendations which support on critical decision making and negotiation points.
  • Present and communicate financial evaluation outcomes (as part of business cases) and effectively walk through the financial model to Enterprise Partnership and Loyalty teams at both Continent and Global levels, working with Director, Financial Analysis & Strategic Planning to achieve stakeholder alignment on the final financial recommendation whilst providing value-added inputs throughout the process.
  • Support with post launch deep dive financial analysis for strategic partnerships to provide decision support for driving performance and partnership optimization.
  • Any other projects as appropriate.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong business and critical thinking skills and financial acumen with proven analytical and problem-solving experience. Demonstrate aptitude to consult and diagnose issues, problem solve and implement plans to drive solutions.
  • Good strategic and commercial business skills and a passion for using data to drive better decision making.
  • Effective communication skills. Ability to articulate operating and financial results concisely to peers and senior leaders within and outside of the Finance organization. Capability to lead and influence senior executives around business issues.
  • Maintains positive business climate while cultivating a fast-paced, high-growth environment that effectively balances entrepreneurial creativity, in which individuals are strong performers who are given clear direction and goals and held accountable for achieving them.
  • Strong computer skills required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, Hyperion, and Peoplesoft Financial Application highly preferred. Familiarity with Marriott International back-office systems (Opera PMS, Infrasys/Symphony Point-of-Sales, Birchstreet, Marriott Bonvoy Program, CRS/ARS) a plus.
  • Excellent skills in complex analytic problem solving, strategic planning, program development, project management, change management and group process. Ability to organize large volumes of data to create a synthesized, meaningful analysis.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and effective in prioritizing work and following through on commitments.
  • Self-starter with strong tendency toward pro-active process improvement.

Minimum Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, finance, accounting, or related field. MBA preferred but not required.
  • Minimum eight years of managerial experience with proficiency in business analytics, financial planning, and project management. Finance and Accounting experience in the hospitality or related industries preferred.
