The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Director, Field Marketing, Mass Engagement to develop and lead IJM’s national field-based engagement strategy across peer-to-peer events, collegiate outreach, face-to-face canvassing, and community-specific marketing initiatives.

This position is hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) if located in the Washington, DC area or remote for non-local candidates. It reports to Vice President, Mass Engagement and is only available for candidates with the right to work in the US.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive field marketing strategy spanning peer-to-peer events, canvassing, collegiate programs, and community activations;

  • Establish scalable models, playbooks, and performance standards that enable local adaptation while ensuring brand and mission consistency;

  • Lead annual and multi-year planning for field engagement growth and investment;

  • Ensure all field programs reflect IJM’s ethical engagement standards and commitment to dignity;

  • Oversee the strategy and execution of peer-to-peer fundraising events and face-to-face engagement initiatives;

  • Partner with external agencies and vendors to manage canvassing operations, training standards, and performance outcomes;

  • Optimize supporter recruitment, conversion, and follow-up experiences from field interactions;

  • Ensure seamless integration between field-acquired supporters and broader retention and stewardship pathways;

  • Lead strategy for collegiate engagement, including student chapters, campus events, and young adult mobilization;

  • Strengthen leadership development pipelines for student and emerging leaders;

  • Partner with internal teams to ensure collegiate audiences receive age-appropriate, mission-centered engagement journeys;

  • Collaborate with Brand, Digital, Social Media, Creative, Data & Insights, and Retention teams to align field initiatives with national campaigns and messaging;

  • Ensure field insights inform broader marketing, fundraising, and supporter experience strategies;

  • Serve as a key contributor to integrated campaign planning and execution;

  • Track and report on field marketing performance, including participation, revenue, cost-efficiency, and downstream retention outcomes;

  • Identify growth opportunities, risks, and emerging trends within field engagement channels;

  • Lead testing and innovation to improve engagement models, supporter experience, and ROI;

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing field marketing team;

  • Foster a collaborative, growth-oriented, and mission-centered team culture;

  • Support cross-functional working groups and shared learning across engagement teams; and

  • Participation in IJM’s community of spiritual formation.

Qualifications:

  • 10–15 years of experience in field marketing, experiential marketing, peer-to-peer fundraising, or grassroots engagement, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization;

  • Proven track record of building and scaling field-based engagement or fundraising programs;

  • Experience managing vendors, agencies, or distributed field teams;

  • Strong strategic planning, budgeting, and performance optimization experience;

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence without direct authority;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong commitment to mission-aligned storytelling;

  • Expertise in field marketing performance metrics, ROI analysis, and cost modeling;

  • Familiarity with CRM systems and supporter data flows from field to digital environments;

  • Strong understanding of peer-to-peer fundraising, events, and face-to-face engagement best practices; and

  • Ability to translate field insights into actionable national strategies.

*What is a statement of faith?
A statement of faith should describe your Christian faith and how you see it as relevant to your involvement with IJM. The statement can either be incorporated into the cover letter or submitted as a separate document and should include, at a minimum, a description of your spiritual disciplines (prayer, study, etc.) and your current fellowship or place of worship.
