Job Description

You’re collaborative and leverage the experience of others, drawing on collective skills and wisdom for the team to develop and succeed.

You're looking to contribute to the transformation of the transport sector towards a greener and more sustainable future. You want to actively participate in shaping policies and initiatives that reduce carbon emissions, promote renewable energy adoption, and enhance the overall environmental performance of the transport network.

In this role, you'll:

Lead the technical direction for environment, sustainability and planning across a major infrastructure program, providing expert advice and oversight to ensure best practice environmental and sustainability outcomes are embedded across projects and operations. You’ll oversee the organisation’s centre of technical excellence, guiding specialist teams and ensuring systems, frameworks and standards align with legislative requirements and contemporary environmental practice.

You’ll play a key role in shaping environmental management systems, technical guidelines and sustainability initiatives that support consistent, compliant and high-quality delivery. Working closely with program and project teams, you’ll identify strategic risks, provide technical leadership on complex environmental and planning matters, and support early planning and decision-making across the infrastructure lifecycle.

Engaging regularly with regulators, government agencies and senior stakeholders, you’ll build strong partnerships that support effective compliance, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Leading a team of technical specialists, you’ll foster capability, drive consistent standards and position the organisation to respond proactively to emerging environmental, planning and sustainability challenges, supporting the long-term success of the Sydney Metro program.

This is a fixed term full time role until 30 June 2030.

About you

You’re a seasoned environmental, planning or sustainability leader with extensive experience providing technical direction and strategic advice across complex infrastructure projects and operations. You bring deep expertise in environmental planning, assessment and compliance, along with a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, environmental management systems and sustainability practices.

You’re comfortable operating at an executive level, providing authoritative advice on complex and high-risk issues while balancing competing priorities across multiple programs and stakeholders. Your ability to engage effectively with regulators and senior leaders enables you to build trusted relationships and influence decision-making in complex and highly regulated environments.

You’re also an experienced people leader who develops strong technical capability within teams and promotes consistent, high-quality standards of practice. With a focus on collaboration and continuous improvement, you support the delivery of sustainable, compliant and resilient outcomes across large-scale infrastructure programs.
