Environmental ServicesManager

Reportingto the Executive Director, the Environmental Service Manager oversees the efficient operations of Environment Services, including the Laundry,Housekeepingand Maintenance departments. The Environmental Manager works continuously to improve processes within the available resources, leading the teams in all 3 departments in implementing resident-focused services. Ensures residents safetyand comfortby followingExtendicare’spolicies and proceduresalong with Fixing Long-Term Care Act 2021(FLTCA).Making sure to understand the fundamental principles of the act; the long-term care home is primarily the home of its residents and is to be operated so that it is a place where they may live with dignity and is security, safety and comfort and have their physical, psychological, social, spiritual and cultural needs adequately met.

To achieve the above the following duties and responsibilities must be metfor Maintenance, Laundry &Housekeeping departments

  • Facilitates the planning and implementation of Environmental Services toaccomplishannual goals andobjectivesconsistent with thevision ofSouthlake Village.
  • Ensure the maintenance of records as required by law, accreditation for Long Term Carefacilities and oversee all phases of housekeeping,laundryand maintenancein accordance withdepartment standards.
  • Overseeduties concerned with maintenance of grounds, parking lots, driveways,including landscaping, cleanup,snowremovalandexterior Southlakeproperty.
  • Overseeexterior equipment such asgenerator,transformerHVAC equipment on the roof.Making sure thatallequipment is checkedand preventative maintenance is done to meet any and all standards.
  • Ensure preventativemaintenanceisperformed andlogged for Electrical, Lighting, Plumbing,WaterSystems, HVAC, Beds,Doors, Laundryequipment,Kitchen Equipment,Fire Safety, Boilers,Eye washstationsandDaily temperatures are performedexcept those services performedunder service contracts.
  • Ensure that all recordsand licenses are up to date for Maintenance,Laundryand Housekeeping.
  • Conduct ongoingquality inspections and reports.
  • Ensureappropriate processesandcontrols are in place at the floor level to efficientlymanage resources (Staff and Supplies).
  • Coordinates equipmentandfurnishingrepairs.
  • Coordinates fire drills andannual codes per Extendicare policies
  • Manages all facility contracts, pestcontrol,waste removal, confidential shredding, linen,window cleaning, security services, groundskeeping,laundry contracts,fire alarm services, HVAC services, electrical services, plumbing services,elevator services, flooring,furnitureand general contractors.
  • Maintaining liaisonwith regulatory bodiesand awareness of regulationsimpactingonenvironmental cleaningand buildingstandards.
  • Hire,fireandorientatestaff in all 3 departments (Laundry,Maintenance& Housekeeping)onWHMIS, all codesand proper handling pf all chemicals.
  • Contract procurements for variousprojects and developcost analysis for such projects.
  • Monitors andapprovespurchasesassociated with the designatedportionof the budgetassigned, including housekeeping supplies, laundry supplies, maintenancesuppliesand outside contractors.
  • Managesall aspectswithinthelaundrydepartment, staff,laundry supplies,linenand equipment.
  • Manages all aspectswithin the housekeeping department, staff, chemicals, paperproductsand equipment.
  • Ensures all housekeeping chemicalsmeet all safety requirements andare effective products.
  • Interacts with staff,residentsand family membersto ensureenvironmental services aremet.
  • Ensuresstaff scheduling,worksassignments, payroll and attendance management are met.
  • Operates within the guidelines asdeterminedby CUPEcollective agreement. (union)
  • Assistin the development of the annual budget andmonitoroperations in relation tostaffing, supplies, linen,maintenancecontractsand capital equipment.
  • Liaison toSouthlake MedicalCenterboth5thfloor occupants and hospital counterpart
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Educationand Experience

  • Building EnvironmentalSystems (BES) preferred, WHIMIScertified, Health and Safety certified
  • Environmental Managementexperience3years preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years ofLong-TermCareexperience and 3 years management experiencepreferred.
  • Canadian Healthcare Housekeepers’ Association (CHHA) Member

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Some physical demands, walking,liftingand climbing
  • Able toassistmaintenance.
  • Able to be on-calland able to respond to emergency callsandassistwhen needed.
  • Work is performed both inofficeenvironmentand facility.Somehands-on maintenance work.
