Work Location: Atlanta, GA
The Director of Emory Healthcare Sterile Processing Services provides enterprise-wide leadership for all sterile processing operations across the EHC system. This role is responsible for strategic planning, financial oversight, quality and regulatory compliance, and staff leadership while serving as the primary liaison between SPD, clinical departments, and health system leadership.
The Director ensures patient safety through the development of highly reliable systems, drives operational performance across all SPD locations, and leads continuous process improvement efforts to support the growth of procedural and clinical case volume throughout EHC.
Strategic Leadership & Vision
Develop the philosophy, goals, and objectives for sterile processing services across EHC
Design, develop, organize, direct, and promote SPD services to medical staff and entity operational leaders
Design and implement programs to support increased procedural and clinical case volume
Serve as liaison and intermediary between procedural leaders, entity leadership, and clinical stakeholder departments
Report to the EHC SVP Perioperative Service Line Operations and collaborate with entity executive leadership
Participate in all standing committees
Analyze operations to identify potential enhancements and recommend solutions aligned with overall goalsQuality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
Oversee EHC programs to ensure patient safety in collaboration with the Office of Quality
Create highly reliable systems and methods to meet quality goals and objectives
Provide operational accountability for the quality improvement program with the entity OR Executive Committee
Implement standards, administer practice, evaluate outcomes, and maintain all regulatory records
Collaborate on development and review of policies, procedures, and quality improvement indicators
Ensure adherence to quality standards within sterile processing services
Apply knowledge of Joint Commission guidelines and state/federal regulations and standardsFinancial & Operational Management
Provide administrative and financial accountability for planning, directing, staffing, coordinating, and controlling all SPD functions
Complete and approve annual operations and capital expense budgets
Direct necessary financial analysis and factor financial need into budget projections
Present proposed budgets to the governing body for final approval
Regularly evaluate performance of each SPD location through in-person visits and record reviews
Analyze and utilize information to support management decisions and communicate ongoing perioperative enterprise statusStakeholder Engagement & Communication
Communicate with physicians and work closely with entity leaders to maintain high service standards
Function as an effective liaison between procedural areas, system leadership, and clinical departments
Communicate ongoing status of the perioperative enterprise to relevant stakeholders
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Apply strong marketing skills to promote SPD services across the health systemPeople Leadership & Process Improvement
Develop, implement, monitor, and measure programs for staff recruitment and retention
Demonstrate leadership skills with emphasis on staff retention
Lead and manage process improvement projects delivering measurable impact on quality, safety, efficiency, and patient satisfaction

Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing, business administration or health care required. Master's Degree preferred
- Seven years in managing a highly complex perioperative or Sterile Processing services enterprise
- Previous system experience in leading large scale sterile processing or perioperative performance improvement projects
- Strong communication and organizational/planning skills with demonstrated leadership abilities
- Licensure - Must maintain valid Driver's License and vehicle insurance to meet travel requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in nursing, business administration or health care
- Extensive experience in overseeing Perioperative or Sterile Processing services in a complex fast paced academic hospital system preferred
- Certification: Certification in Sterile Processing preferred
