Job Description

About Archer

A new regulatory change lands somewhere in the world every six minutes, and agentic AI is outpacing most teams' ability to govern it. At Archer, we help the enterprises powering the global economy turn that pressure into an advantage.

Mandates like the EU AI Act and the SEC cybersecurity disclosure rules are driving the most significant GRC buying cycle we have seen in years. That demand is why we are growing this team.

This is hard work that matters. Our customers span energy, utilities, financial services, pharmaceuticals, and the public institutions communities depend on. People choose Archer because they get to partner with the most trusted brands in the world, on work that protects the customers and communities those brands serve.

If that sounds like your kind of work, let's chat.

The Role

Archer is seeking a hands-on Engineering Leader to lead the team responsible for building the next generation of GRC-focused AI Operators within Archer Evolv.

This is a player/coach role for an experienced engineering leader who is comfortable both managing a high-performing development team and remaining technically engaged in architecture, code quality, design decisions, and delivery.

The successful candidate will lead a team of approximately 10–20 Agent Builder Engineers developing specialized, skill-based AI Operators on AWS AgentCore, leveraging AWS Bedrock and modern agentic AI technologies.

The role reports to the Head of R&D.

What you will do

Lead the AI Operator Engineering Team

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of approximately 10–20 engineers focused on building specialized AI Operators for Governance, Risk, and Compliance use cases.
  • Operate as a hands-on player/coach, balancing engineering leadership with direct involvement in technical design, architecture, implementation, troubleshooting, and code review.
  • Establish clear engineering standards, development patterns, reusable frameworks, and quality expectations for AI Operator development.
  • Ensure the team consistently delivers production-ready Operators that are reliable, scalable, secure, explainable, and maintainable.

Drive AI Operator Buildout

  • Lead the design and development of skill-based, specialized AI agents/Operators using AWS AgentCore, AWS Bedrock, Python, and related AWS services.
  • Own the engineering execution and delivery cadence for new Operators, enhancements, integrations, and reusable agent capabilities.
  • Understand the complexity of individual Operator use cases and help the team determine the appropriate architecture, tools, models, workflows, guardrails, and integrations.
  • Identify common patterns across Operators and drive the development of reusable components and shared services.

Accelerate and Automate the Agent-Building Process

Continuously evaluate the Operator development lifecycle with a focus on increasing engineering velocity and reducing unnecessary manual effort.

The Engineering Leader will be expected to:

Identify → Recommend → Implement opportunities to:

  • Automate repetitive aspects of agent development.
  • Standardize Operator architectures and implementation patterns.
  • Create reusable skills, tools, prompts, evaluation frameworks, integrations, and templates.
  • Improve developer tooling and the Agent Builder experience.
  • Reduce the time and engineering effort required to move an Operator from concept to production.
  • Improve automated testing, evaluation, observability, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Increase overall Operator development capacity without compromising quality.

Engineering Quality and Technical Leadership

  • Perform and oversee pull request reviews for work completed by the Agent Builder team.
  • Ensure appropriate engineering practices around code quality, testing, documentation, security, observability, and maintainability.
  • Provide technical guidance on Python, React, AWS architecture, Bedrock, AgentCore, LLM integration, agent orchestration, and related technologies.
  • Participate directly in resolving complex engineering problems and removing technical blockers.
  • Drive consistent architectural patterns across the Operator portfolio.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Act as the primary engineering liaison between the AI Operator development team and
  • Product Management
  • Customer Success Management (CSM)
  • Professional Services (PS)
  • Other Archer engineering and platform teams

Work closely with these teams to:

  • Translate product requirements and client demand into actionable engineering priorities.
  • Ensure Operator capabilities meet customer and GRC-domain requirements.
  • Balance roadmap priorities, customer commitments, engineering capacity, and technical dependencies.
  • Surface implementation complexity and technical tradeoffs.
  • Ensure feedback from customers and field teams is incorporated into the development lifecycle.

Reporting and Operational Responsibilities

  • Provide recurring reporting to the Head of R&D covering:
  • AI Operator buildout cadence and throughput.
  • Operators completed, in development, and planned.
  • Development complexity and engineering effort.
  • Team capacity and utilization.
  • Technical challenges and dependencies.
  • Bottlenecks affecting delivery.
  • Quality and production-readiness concerns.
  • Opportunities for automation and process improvement.
  • Actions being taken to increase development velocity.

This Leader will use these insights not simply to report status, but to continuously improve the team's ability to deliver Operators faster and with greater consistency.

What you bring

  • 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including direct management of software engineers.
  • Experience leading engineering teams of approximately 10–20 developers or comparable scale.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on Python development experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience or strong working knowledge of React and modern front-end development.
  • Hands-on development experience with AWS Bedrock.
  • Working experience with AWS AgentCore and agentic AI architectures.
  • Experience designing, building, or operating AI agents, LLM-based applications, autonomous workflows, or comparable AI systems.
  • Strong experience with AWS cloud architecture and cloud-native engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to review code, guide architecture, and remain technically engaged while managing an engineering organization.
  • Experience establishing development standards, reusable frameworks, and engineering processes that improve team velocity.

Even Better if you have

  • Experience building enterprise-grade AI agents or multi-agent systems.
  • Experience with prompt engineering, tool use, agent orchestration, RAG, evaluation frameworks, guardrails, and LLM observability.
  • Experience developing AI applications involving multiple models, tools, APIs, and enterprise data sources.
  • Experience working within Governance, Risk, Compliance, cybersecurity, regulatory technology, audit, or other highly regulated enterprise environments.
  • Experience building reusable AI platforms or frameworks used by multiple development teams.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, automated testing, and deployment of AI applications within AWS.
