Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in software engineering, building and working with systems in the technology organization.
  • 5 years of experience in Android application or platform development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience defining strategic direction for engineering or operations organizations.
  • Experience leading and partnering effectively with cross-functional executive stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the Android platform, hardware-level constraints (e.g., watches, automotive), and the technical nuances of the device assistant space.
  • Ability to distill complex architectural challenges into clear narratives for senior leadership and external hardware partners.
  • Ability to translate technical breakthroughs into robust consumer products.
  • Proven track record of leading engineering organizations (50+ people) with a focus on building scalable platforms rather than bespoke features.

About the job

As the Director of Engineering for the Gemini Device Platform, you will lead the centralized hub responsible for pulling all on-device Gemini efforts together into a cohesive ecosystem. Reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering for Android & Chrome Integrations, you will oversee a specialized platform team and provide senior leadership for the multi-site devices organization.

You are a platform visionary and a builder of organizations. You will move the organization beyond one-on-one integrations by establishing common APIs and shared componentry that allow Gemini to scale across Watch, TV, Auto, Glasses, and Buds with high velocity.

US: $307000 - $428000 (USD) + 30% bonus target + bonus + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Drive the roadmap for shared on-device componentry, ensuring new form factors can be onboarded quickly.
  • Build structural partnerships with PM and UX leads to move from prototype to production at Google-scale.
  • Manage the organization’s budget, headcount planning, and annual OKR setting for the devices platform hub.
  • Act as the primary technical lead for the Mountain View based hub, unblocking hardware dependencies and representing the organization in executive reviews.
