Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Director Engineering to lead, build and grow the multi-disciplinary Engineering Design team across our Australia West Business Unit. This senior leadership role is responsible for delivering business performance objectives through a strong focus on client outcomes, safety, quality, employee engagement, and sound technical and commercial decision making.

Working closely with Directors of Engineering across Sedgman’s global business, the Director, Engineering, Perth will provide strategic direction and leadership to the engineering resource pool, including people, systems, technology and assets, to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of client valued engineering services.

The Director Engineering – Australia West will be accountable for:

  • Setting clear direction, expectations and performance targets that drive continuous improvement and achievement of business goals.
  • Leading, inspiring and motivating multidisciplinary teams to deliver on business strategy, productivity, quality standards and behavioural expectations.
  • Building and sustaining a high-performance culture aligned to organisational values and safety outcomes.
  • Leading, planning, directing, and coordinating the delivery of high value engineering services to external and internal clients, with a focus on cost, time, and quality.
  • Ensuring successful execution of engineering works to meet commercial objectives.
  • Collaborating across regions to develop strategies, optimise workshare, and allocate resources to build capability and capacity.
  • Supporting direct reports to optimise resource utilisation and resolve cross‑functional or jurisdictional conflicts.
  • Managing engineering resources in a cost-effective manner, maximising chargeability while maintaining excellence in client service.
  • Preparing, reviewing and overseeing budgets, forecasts and reports for the engineering function, together with presenting recommendations to the Senior Executive Leadership Team.

You are an experienced senior leader demonstrating the following qualities:

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree
  • 20+ years’ experience in engineering, project development and project management specifically within the resources sector.
  • An exceptional leader with demonstrated experience in managing and leading multiple teams while nurturing a strong organisational culture.
  • Extensive experience in the leadership of engineering and delivery of multi-disciplinary projects through both EPCM and EPC execution models.
  • Strong commercial acumen with solid experience in Profit & Loss (P/L) management, commercial contracts, and negotiation.
  • Deep understanding of the Western Australian market dynamics and a track record of growing market share in resource sector engineering services.
