Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Email Deliverability based in Canada.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to build and own an enterprise-scale email deliverability function from the ground up.
You will define the strategy, infrastructure, and standards that ensure customer messages consistently reach the inbox.
The role combines deep technical expertise with customer advisory responsibilities across a large portfolio of e-commerce brands.
You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Support to shape deliverability tooling and platform capabilities.
You will also establish scalable processes, monitoring frameworks, and industry relationships that strengthen sender reputation and performance.
As the function matures, you will have the opportunity to recruit, mentor, and lead a specialized deliverability team.
This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-moving environment and enjoys turning complex technical challenges into measurable business outcomes.

Accountabilities

  • Own the end-to-end email deliverability strategy, including IP pool architecture, domain strategy, and shared versus dedicated sending models.
  • Design and manage IP and domain warming programs that enable new senders to scale volume safely while protecting sender reputation.
  • Establish and maintain authentication standards covering SPF, DKIM, DMARC, BIMI, and DMARC alignment across customer sending domains.
  • Monitor sender reputation, inbox placement, blocklists, spam rates, and other deliverability indicators, leading rapid remediation when issues arise.
  • Track evolving requirements from major mailbox providers, including Gmail, Yahoo, and Microsoft, and ensure sending practices remain aligned with current standards.
  • Act as the senior deliverability advisor for customers by auditing email programs, diagnosing inbox-placement challenges, and developing actionable remediation strategies.
  • Lead deliverability onboarding for customers migrating email programs, including reputation assessment, reputation transfer, and warming strategies.
  • Translate complex technical deliverability concepts into clear recommendations that marketing and business stakeholders can understand and implement.
  • Manage customer escalations and help protect and improve inbox placement and sender reputation across customer programs.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to define deliverability infrastructure, monitoring capabilities, tooling, and roadmap priorities.
  • Establish scalable playbooks, processes, standards, feedback loops, reporting, and monitoring systems that support thousands of senders.
  • Implement and leverage tools such as Google Postmaster Tools, Yahoo Sender Hub, feedback loops, and internal reporting to provide visibility into deliverability health.
  • Build relationships with mailbox providers, industry partners, and the wider email deliverability community.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant email marketing and privacy regulations, including CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and mailbox-provider policies.
  • Leverage AI tools and internal systems to improve monitoring, diagnostics, reporting, and customer guidance.
  • As the function grows, recruit, mentor, and lead a team of deliverability specialists while establishing a strong culture of expertise and accountability.
  • Requirements

    • 8+ years of dedicated email deliverability experience, ideally within an ESP, CDP, high-volume sending platform, or comparable technology environment.
    • Deep technical expertise in SPF, DKIM, DMARC, BIMI, IP and domain warming, sender reputation, feedback loops, and inbox placement.
    • Hands-on experience managing deliverability for high-volume senders, including diagnosing and resolving blocklisting, reputation, spam-rate, and inbox-placement issues.
    • Strong working knowledge of Google Postmaster Tools, Yahoo Sender Hub, and current Gmail, Yahoo, and Microsoft bulk-sender requirements.
    • Established relationships with mailbox providers and/or active involvement in professional deliverability communities such as M3AAWG or Email Geeks is strongly preferred.
    • Strong understanding of e-commerce and direct-to-consumer brands, including how email contributes to customer engagement and revenue.
    • Excellent consulting and communication skills, with the ability to translate highly technical deliverability concepts into practical strategies for non-technical marketing teams.
    • Player-coach mindset with the ability to remain hands-on while developing scalable processes, documentation, and team capabilities.
    • Demonstrated ability to build a new function, establish operational standards, and create structure in a fast-paced or early-stage environment.
    • Comfortable working with AI and emerging technologies to improve monitoring, diagnostics, analysis, and operational efficiency.
    • Strong strategic thinking, analytical problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail, reliability, and follow-through.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, Support, customers, and external industry stakeholders.
    • Benefits

      • Fully remote work environment with the flexibility to work from Canada.
      • Opportunity to build and lead a critical business function from the ground up.
      • High-growth technology environment with significant opportunities for professional impact and career development.
      • Opportunity to influence the email infrastructure and deliverability experience supporting thousands of e-commerce brands.
      • Collaborative team culture focused on innovation, e-commerce, and emerging technology.
      • Flexible paid time off to support rest and personal well-being.
      • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
      • Inclusive workplace committed to diversity and equal employment opportunities.
      • Opportunities to work with AI-powered tools and shape the future of multi-channel customer engagement.
