Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Public Policy, Business, Political Science, or Economics or equivalent practical experience.
• 15 years of experience in economic development within a corporate organization (e.g., tax, policy, legal, real estate, etc.), law firm, accounting firm, consultancy or government agency.
• Experience in people management with a team size of 50 or more.

Preferred qualifications:

• Juris Doctorate, MBA, or other relevant professional certification.
• Experience with economic development impact studies or economic development marketing.
• Experience with any of the following: industrial-scale projects, real estate evaluation, acquisition, development, and construction, utility contracts, energy-related issues, and clean energy initiatives.
• Experience or familiarity with a range of economic development issues such as indirect taxes, economic development policy, infrastructure development, contract drafting and redlining, and presentation development.

The Strategic Partnerships Office (SPO) is responsible for architecting, launching, and scaling a dual-focus partnership engine spanning both manufacturing and community ecosystems. The SPO organization operates at the intersection of industrial innovation, external affairs, and civic impact, creating bridges between Google’s technology capabilities and the real-world partners that extend our reach and mission.

As Director, Economic Community and Workforce Development, you will combine your market and tech industry knowledge to support Google's infrastructure growth. You will build and execute economic development strategies, drive infrastructure labor and workforce development programs, work with industry peers, and present strategies to executive leadership. You will advocate for Google and the data center industry, while identifying and addressing industry trends.

In this role, you will lead business discussions with the key stakeholders. Your knowledge of economic development, compliance, relationship and coalition building, policy and regulation, and company goals will position you to be an advocate for development and management of the global data center portfolio.

Additionally, you will embed community and workforce development best practices within a rapidly expanding organization, serving as a subject matter expert on delivery, strategic community engagement, and labor market opportunities for data center communities. You will identify future talent resource needs and collaborate with local and regional organizations to bridge skills gaps, creating a sustainable workforce pipeline for the data center ecosystem. You will collaborate with education and training organizations to establish talent pathways, ensuring data center communities benefit from the digital economy.

Responsibilities

• Unlock new markets, reduce overall total cost of ownership, and improve community and stakeholder engagement.
• Support the development of content to broaden and amplify our messaging and planning around the data center lifecycle, and take a leading role in industry coalitions, legislative efforts, policy advancement, and mitigation of industry headwinds.
• Grow, develop, and manage a global community engagement team that includes public affairs and workforce development to drive in-market sentiment and optimize local market operating environments.
• Uncouple agitation from core grievance and create strategies that build community in productive and challenging environments, and remain calm in time-sensitive environments.
