Job Description

The Department of Pediatrics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone Health seeks a full-time academic physician to serve as Director of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology. This high-impact leadership role will shape the Division’s strategic direction, clinical excellence, and academic growth.

About the Division

The Division is a growing academic subspecialty division of 16 faculty, providing comprehensive care for children and adolescents with digestive and liver conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), celiac disease, and fatty liver disease. It leads several multidisciplinary programs:

  • Pediatric IBD Program: nationally recognized for its use of intestinal ultrasound, a noninvasive point-of-care tool for assessing disease activity.
  • Pediatric Aerodigestive Center: coordinated care with pulmonology and ENT for children with overlapping respiratory and digestive concerns.
  • Neuro-gastroenterology and Motility Program: focused on gut-brain interactions in conditions such as gastroparesis, achalasia, rumination, and functional abdominal pain.
  • Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases Program: nationally recognized program for the care of chronic, immune-meditated conditions.
  • Additional programs: celiac disease and gluten-related disorders, interdisciplinary nutrition and feeding, and intestinal rehabilitation.

The Division’s robust hepatology and transplant hepatology service works closely with the NYU Langone Transplant Institute to support the Pediatric Liver Disease and Transplant Program, a regional referral center for complex liver and gastrointestinal disorders.

The Division also offers a three-year ACGME-accredited fellowship (two fellows per year) and a one-year specialized IBD fellowship.

The Role

The Director will provide administrative leadership with accountability for the Division’s clinical, research, and educational performance, and will have access to the robust clinical and research infrastructure of the Department and NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Responsibilities include:

  • Fostering a collaborative, mission-driven culture with open communication across faculty and staff
  • Owning the Division’s performance and strategic direction, and developing new clinical, research, and educational opportunities, including interdivisional and interdepartmental collaborations
  • Supporting faculty development, extramural funding, and philanthropic initiatives
  • Resolving conflicts fairly and promptly
  • Representing the Division on departmental and institutional committees
  • Developing advanced endoscopy capabilities and elevating the Division’s national reputation over time

Compensation

Salary Range: $350K–$450K (full-time; excludes incentive compensation and benefits). Actual salary may fall outside this range based on experience, rank, training, and other factors.

Qualifications

Applicants must be at the Associate Professor or Professor level (appointment commensurate with experience), board certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology, and licensed or eligible for licensure in New York State.
