The Role

This is a senior role within HSBC Asset Management’s established Direct Lending team, focused on originating new investment opportunities across Continental Europe and to a lesser extent the UK. You’ll source and execute senior secured loans across our Direct Lending strategies in the lower and core mid-market. The role spans the full deal lifecycle - from origination and screening through due diligence, documentation and Investment Committee approval. You’ll stay closely involved after completion through ongoing portfolio oversight and take responsibility for our relationship with HSBC Bank with whom we partner on deals Success means building a high-quality pipeline, executing investments with strong protections and supporting portfolio performance and fundraising outcomes. The role is based in Zurich and reports to the Head of Direct Lending.

What you'll be doing

  • Originate new Direct Lending investment opportunities across Europe
  • Articulate go-to-market strategy to counterparties to secure high-quality deal introductions
  • Manage transaction screening and due diligence including reviewing information memoranda, third-party reports and financial modelling priorities
  • Prepare high-quality Investment Committee papers and present opportunities to the Investment Committee
  • Maintain relationships with borrowers and sponsors through execution and ongoing portfolio management
  • Oversee portfolio monitoring including key performance indicators, financial performance and regular engagement with borrowers and sponsors
  • Apply disciplined judgement on legal terms and documentation to protect downside risk while navigating competitive processes
  • Support fundraising activity including participating in investor meetings and helping prepare marketing materials and research papers

What we're looking for

  • Bring substantial experience in private credit and/or leveraged finance with a strong focus on underwriting credit risk and capital allocation
  • Demonstrate proven deal sourcing capability including an established network across European financial sponsors and advisers
  • Apply strong credit judgement to filter opportunities and focus on investments that maximise risk-adjusted returns
  • Show strong analytical capability including working with financial models and investment appraisal fundamentals
  • Communicate clearly in writing and in person including presenting investment opportunities to senior forums
  • Build effective working relationships across sponsors, advisers, borrowers and HSBC origination teams
  • Operate effectively in a fast-paced transaction environment with strong planning, organisation and prioritisation
  • Communicate fluently in English and German (preferably)
