Job Description

At Bulk, our mission is to build sustainable infrastructure that supports the digital society of tomorrow. As one of the leading providers of sustainable, high-performance data center solutions in the Nordics, we design and operate infrastructure that powers artificial intelligence and the digital society – efficiently, securely, and with 100% renewable energy. We are now looking to hire a Director of Digital Platform to play a central role in building the data and software platform that our AI and digital ambitions rest on.

Bulk's AI & Digital function exists to leverage AI and digital to improve operations, save costs, and automate work. You will own the foundation the rest of it builds on, both its architecture and its build: the data-and-software platform behind every product surface and every AI agent on the team. You will stand up the data layer: live readings off Bulk's data center sites, data from the core business systems, and integrations with partner and OEM digital offerings, plus the interfaces that let AI agents act safely and the developer tooling the team relies on.

Reporting to the VP AI & Digital, you will ship in thin slices, own the build-versus-buy calls, enforce governance at the interface layer alongside Cyber Security, and lead the platform team hands-on, staying close to the code.

What you'll do:

As our Director Digital Platform, your key responsibilities will be:

Platform and data

  • Stand up the platform that pulls live readings off the data center sites and turns that data into something the rest of the team can build on.

  • Ship in thin slices, starting with one site, one use case, one connector.

  • Integrate data from core business systems such as ERP and CRM, in close collaboration with IT, who run, maintain and upgrade them.

  • Connect partner and OEM digital offerings so their data and capabilities are available through the platform.

Architecture and technology choices

  • Own the platform architecture: how the layers fit together, what the interfaces look like, and how it holds up as Bulk goes from one site to many.

  • Own the build-versus-buy decisions on the platform layer, and coordinate with existing systems vendors so the team doesn't duplicate what is already there.

  • Take a position on the platform's cloud direction and keep the cost of running it under control as it grows.

Interfaces, governance and security

  • Design the interface layer as the place the rules are enforced: who can log in, what gets recorded, rate limits, and who is allowed to see which data.

  • Partner with Cyber Security so the controls on platform data and access are designed in, not reviewed after.

  • Deliver interfaces for customers and partners to pull relevant live data, service-level status and incident events.

Team and ways of working

  • Build and lead a focused platform team, including DevOps , backend development, and data product development, with consultants brought in for surge work.

  • Run the sandbox where colleagues across Bulk prototype and prove ideas safely and own the engineer-led path that promotes a proven proof of concept into production.

  • Work closely with the program leads for operations, projects and the commercial side, who will build on the platform you own.

Who are you?

You are a hands-on engineering leader who stays close to the code rather than managing from a distance. You are pragmatic about scope and ship working slices, not cathedrals. Your technical judgment is strong, you make architectural calls and own them, and you de-risk with smaller initiatives while keeping the bigger picture in mind. You are fluent in a modern engineering toolchain and in agentic workflows, infrastructure included, and you get far more out of a small team because of it. In a function that is still taking shape, you find your own way, stay curious, take up space, and carry things through.

What you bring:

  • Minimum 10 years in software engineering and technology, and still hands-on. You read, write and review code fluently, and architecture and delivery calls are made from inside the code, not above it.

  • Proven experience standing up an industrial IoT platform in an industrial enterprise, in production, not designed on paper.

  • Strong working command of a modern cloud platform, Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, as someone who builds on it rather than buys it: networking, identity, data services and cost control.

  • Experience integrating core business systems such as ERP and CRM, alongside the IT organization that runs them.

  • Experience standing up and running infrastructure with agentic tooling, including AgentOps: operating the platform through agents, not only writing code with their help.

  • Experience leading a small, senior engineering team while staying close to the code.

  • Good understanding of OT systems and the protocols the data comes over, such as SCADA, building management systems, OPC UA, Modbus and MQTT. Familiarity with data center, energy or other physical infrastructure environments is an advantage.

  • Higher education in engineering, computer science or a related technical discipline. Extensive relevant experience may compensate for formal education.

  • Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in a Scandinavian language is considered an advantage.

Why join us?

  • Build Bulk's digital platform from the ground up, and the team around it.

  • Influence how key operational processes are shaped and developed.

  • Become part of a growing organization with a strong sustainability mission.

  • Work with critical infrastructure that supports the digital society of tomorrow.

  • Collaborate with highly skilled colleagues across disciplines and locations.

What we offer our Bulkies:

  • A dynamic, growth-oriented workplace with a strong sustainability focus

  • Comprehensive insurance (health, travel – business & private) and annual health check

  • Additional time off during Easter and Christmas

  • Monthly contribution to home internet costs and sustainable commuting

  • Annual wellness allowance to support an active lifestyle

  • Fully paid parental leave
