Overview
The Director, Deposits is responsible for the strategic leadership, growth, profitability, and performance of the organization's deposit portfolio. This role owns the development and execution of deposit strategies that support member acquisition, retention, funding objectives, balance sheet optimization, and long-term organizational growth.
As a senior leader, the Director partners closely with executive leadership to establish deposit strategy, drive product innovation, optimize portfolio performance, and enhance member value. The role is accountable for deposit product management, pricing strategy, portfolio analytics, and the delivery of business results while ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives, regulatory requirements, and market opportunities.
The Director leads cross-functional initiatives, develops high-performing teams, and serves as a key voice in strategic planning, governance, and business decision-making. This position plays a critical role in balancing growth, profitability, member experience, and funding needs across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the organization's deposit strategy to drive deposit growth, member engagement, retention, profitability, and funding objectives.
- Establish annual and multi-year business plans, goals, and performance targets for the deposit portfolio.
- Evaluate market opportunities, competitive dynamics, member trends, and emerging industry developments to inform strategic direction.
- Lead strategic initiatives that enhance the organization's deposit franchise, competitive position, and long-term growth.
- Strong understanding of balance sheet management, liquidity strategy, cost of funds, and the financial value of deposits.
- Serve as the business owner for deposit products and related member value propositions.
- Oversee deposit product management, including product design, pricing, promotions, lifecycle management, and portfolio optimization.
- Experience designing and optimizing relationship pricing, loyalty, rewards, or engagement programs tied to deposit products
- Demonstrated expertise in deposit product profitability analysis, valuation, financial modeling, and business case development.
- Leverage data, market intelligence, and member insights to identify opportunities for product enhancements and business growth.
- Advanced experience using analytics, forecasting, segmentation, and performance measurement to drive deposit growth and profitability.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of deposit professionals.
- Create a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Establish performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching and development opportunities.
- Build organizational capabilities and succession plans to support long-term business needs.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on deposit growth, pricing, portfolio performance, and funding strategies.
- Present portfolio performance, business cases, strategic recommendations, and market insights to executive leadership, ALCO, and Board Committees as appropriate.
- Influence enterprise decision-making through data-driven insights and strategic recommendations.
- Represent the deposit business in strategic planning, governance, and enterprise leadership forums.
- Partner with Treasury, Finance, Lending, Marketing, Digital, Technology, Operations, Risk, and Compliance leaders to execute business strategies.
- Lead complex, cross-functional initiatives that impact both member experience and organizational performance.
- Ensure alignment between deposit strategies and broader enterprise goals.
- Balance member, operational, financial, regulatory, and risk considerations when making strategic decisions.
- Ensure deposit products, pricing strategies, and business processes comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Collaborate with Risk Management and Compliance to identify and mitigate risks associated with deposit products and programs.
- Maintain strong governance, controls, and oversight of portfolio performance and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in credit unions, banking, financial services, product management, treasury management, or related disciplines.
- Leadership experience managing strategic business initiatives with enterprise impact.
- Demonstrated success influencing senior executives and leading large, cross-functional programs.
- Deep understanding of deposit portfolio management, pricing strategy, customer acquisition, profitability management, and funding objectives.
- Experience developing strategic business cases and influencing investment decisions.
- Strong executive communication and presentation skills.
- Experience presenting to executive leadership, ALCO, management committees, or board-level stakeholders.
- Experience managing business line strategy, financial performance, or P&L accountability.
- Experience leading organizational transformation, digital modernization, or enterprise growth initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or a related field.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in deposit management, retail banking, product management, consumer banking, or financial services.
- 3+ years of leadership experience managing teams, business functions, or strategic initiatives.
- Experience leading deposit product strategy, pricing, portfolio management, growth initiatives, or related business functions.
- Strong understanding of deposit products, member/customer behavior, funding strategies, profitability drivers, and competitive market dynamics.
- Demonstrated success influencing executive leaders and driving cross-functional business initiatives.
Target Base Pay
$137,485 -$171,866
