Our London office is a key international hub, working closely with teams across Australia, Asia, Europe and the Americas. The business plays an important role in supporting cross border funding, investor access, and international capital markets activity for clients in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

This role sits within the Debt Capital Markets and Syndicate platform of Westpac Institutional Bank.

How will I help

Director, DCM Origination and Coverage is a senior client facing role focused on originating, structuring and executing debt capital markets transactions across UK and European markets.

The role combines deep product expertise with relationship management, delivering tailored funding solutions to institutional, corporate and financial institution clients.

The Director will lead origination across a broad range of products including senior unsecured bonds, medium term notes, Kangaroo bonds, private placements, subordinated debt and liability management transactions. Acting as a trusted advisor, the role provides guidance on capital structure, market conditions, investor appetite and optimal issuance strategy.

A key focus of the role is to strengthen and evolve Westpac’s DCM platform in UK and Europe, connecting regional clients to Westpac’s deep expertise and investor base in Australia and New Zealand. The role also supports Australian and New Zealand clients with their international funding and broader global fixed income activities, particularly primary market issuance.

The successful candidate will be recognised as a market facing senior practitioner with strong technical capability, credibility with clients and established market relationships.

Key Accountabilities

Client Coverage and Relationship Management

  • Own and manage a portfolio of priority clients, acting as the primary DCM contact
  • Develop a deep understanding of client balance sheets, funding profiles and strategic priorities
  • Deliver proactive and insight led coverage through market updates, peer analysis and bespoke ideas
  • Build and maintain senior relationships with Treasurers, CFOs and Heads of Funding

Transaction Origination and Execution

  • Originate and execute public and private debt transactions across UK and European market
  • Lead structuring, pricing and execution including complex cross currency and multi tranche deals
  • Prepare and deliver pitches, proposals and mandate submissions
  • Coordinate internal stakeholders across syndicate, credit, legal, documentation and distribution

Revenue and Commercial Outcomes

  • Deliver against revenue targets and wallet share objectives
  • Identify cross sell opportunities across loans, derivatives, FX and transaction banking
  • Maintain an accurate and well managed transaction pipeline

Stakeholder Collaboration

Partner closely with Relationship Managers, Industry Coverage and Product teams

  • Work with Syndicate and Sales to position transactions effectively with investors
  • Maintain strong connectivity with Australia and New Zealand DCM teams
  • Liaise with Legal, Risk and Compliance on approvals and documentation standards

What do I need

  • Significant experience in Debt Capital Markets with a strong origination and execution track record
  • Deep knowledge of fixed income markets, capital structures and transaction documentation
  • Established issuer and investor relationships
  • Strong commercial judgement and ability to generate mandates and revenue
  • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Commerce or Economics
  • CFA or postgraduate qualifications are advantageous
