You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive credit assessments, evaluating transaction structures and financial performance, preparing credit recommendations, and assessing periodic credit reviews to support the ongoing monitoring of the portfolio.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Credit Analysis and Due Diligence – Conduct comprehensive credit analysis and due diligence on new leveraged lending transactions, including the assessment of financial performance, cash flow projections, capital structures, leverage, liquidity, and debt repayment capacity.
  • Transaction Assessment – Evaluate proposed credit transactions, including acquisitions, refinancings, amendments, and incremental financing requests. Assess transaction structures, financial covenants, key credit risks, and mitigating factors.
  • Portfolio Management – Assess Annual and Quarterly Credit Reviews prepared by the Portfolio Management team, monitor portfolio performance and credit quality, identify emerging risks, and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Financial Analysis – Evaluate financial models, management projections, and borrower performance against budgets and forecasts. Assess leverage, liquidity, cash flow generation, and debt service capacity under base and downside scenarios.
  • Credit Recommendation – Prepare clear, well-supported credit assessments and recommendations for senior Credit Risk management, highlighting key risks, mitigating factors, and proposed credit structures.
  • Risk Management – Apply CIBC’s credit risk rating methodologies and policies to ensure objective and accurate assessments of borrower creditworthiness. Evaluate proposed risk ratings and recommend adjustments where appropriate.
  • Collaboration – Develop strong working relationships with Corporate Banking, Capital Markets, Portfolio Management, and other internal stakeholders to facilitate effective credit decision-making while maintaining independent risk judgment.
  • Compliance – Demonstrate a strong understanding of leveraged lending regulatory guidance, CIBC’s credit policies, and risk management practices. Ensure credit assessments and portfolio monitoring activities are consistent with CIBC’s risk appetite and applicable regulatory requirements.

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate knowledge. You have a strong understanding of leveraged lending structures, financial statement analysis, cash flow modeling, debt capital structures, financial covenants, and credit risk assessment.
  • You have strong analytical skills. You are comfortable evaluating complex financial information, assessing borrower performance, identifying key credit risks, and developing well-supported credit recommendations.
  • You understand portfolio management. You have experience monitoring corporate borrowers, assessing periodic credit reviews, evaluating financial performance, and identifying emerging credit concerns.
  • You have a degree. You hold a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. An MBA or equivalent advanced qualification is an asset.
  • You’re motivated by collective success. You work collaboratively with colleagues and business partners while maintaining an independent and objective approach to credit risk assessment.
  • You communicate effectively. You can present complex financial and credit information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to senior management and business partners.
  • You know that details matter. You demonstrate sound judgment, strong attention to detail, and the ability to independently manage multiple transactions and portfolio responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
