Director, Corporate Communications, UK Business

As Director, Corporate Communications, UK Business, you will lead the development and execution of an integrated communications strategy that supports the growth of Barclays Corporate and Business Banking in the UK.

This is a pivotal, high-impact role at the heart of Barclays’ UK-focused strategy, shaping how our business connects with external stakeholders, corporate and small business clients, communities and colleagues. You will translate commercial priorities into a compelling, insight-led communications strategy to strengthen reputation, drive creativity and increase engagement across internal and external audiences.

You will act as a senior advisor to UK Business leadership, partnering closely with functional peers, media relations and employee communications teams to deliver one cohesive, high-impact communications plan aligned to business objectives and market commitments.

Experience and Skills

  • Proven track record of leading integrated corporate communications in a large, complex organisation, ideally within a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated success in translating business strategy into clear, measurable and impactful communications strategy and activations.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills, with experience advising senior executives and building trusted relationships.
  • Strong storytelling, editorial judgement and content leadership across channels, audiences and formats.
  • Deep experience in reputation management, thought leadership, campaigns and issues management.
  • Ability to use insight, data and market intelligence to shape communications strategy and drive continuous improvement.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams, with a focus on collaboration and coaching.

Director Expectations

  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalates breaches of policies / procedure appropriately.
  • Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division / Group to achieve the overall business objectives.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments / initiatives.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
