CIBC Capital Markets serves as the wholesale arm of CIBC, offering a broad range of investment banking, global markets, credit, and research products and services to government, institutional, corporate, and retail clients across North America and key markets globally. Employees within CIBC Capital Markets work in highly disciplined, cross functional teams, leveraging industry expertise to deliver innovative capital solutions and advisory services across a wide array of sectors.

As Director, Trading Credit, you will lead the underwriting, structuring, and approval of trading credit transactions across a range of products, including derivatives, securities financing transactions, margin facilities, and trade finance. You will manage a portfolio of key financial institution relationships across the Americas, including banks, broker-dealers, custodians, pension funds, asset managers, alternative funds, insurance companies, and government entities. In this role, you will partner with clients and internal stakeholders to understand trading activity, assess evolving credit needs, and support the delivery of Capital Markets solutions. You will conduct counterparty due diligence, evaluate credit risk, provide sound credit recommendations, and proactively manage credit exposure across a complex portfolio. Working closely with teams across Global Markets, Legal, and Risk, you will help identify and mitigate risks related to derivatives and other trading products. You will also contribute to team success by mentoring junior professionals, fostering collaboration, and supporting a high-performing, client-focused culture.

How you'll succeed

• Client Relationship Management: Manage trading credit relationships across a portfolio of bank and non-bank financial institution clients. Develop strong, trusted relationships to understand client trading requirements, anticipate evolving needs, and support CIBC Capital Markets business opportunities.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support sound credit decisions, efficient execution, and a high standard of client service.
• Risk Management: Partner closely with trading floor businesses and key internal stakeholders, including Legal and Risk, to identify, assess, and mitigate credit risks associated with derivatives and other trading products. Monitor credit quality and global exposure by maintaining current insight into counterparties’ financial condition, industry developments, and market trends.
• Credit Analysis and Recommendations: Deliver timely, well-supported, and clearly articulated recommendations on credit facilities, grounded in rigorous analysis of financial, industry, business, and market information. Conduct credit due diligence and assess counterparty exposure to support effective decision-making.
• Portfolio Oversight: Maintain a comprehensive view of portfolio risk across a broad range of financial institution segments, including banks, broker-dealers, custodians, pension funds, asset managers, alternative funds, insurance companies, and government entities.
• Strategic Execution: Execute strategic initiatives in partnership with internal and external stakeholders, contributing to business priorities and supporting the broader objectives of the trading credit platform.
• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, strengthen execution, and improve operating effectiveness, while proactively developing practical and well-considered solutions.
• Talent Development: Provide guidance, coaching, and oversight to Associates and Analysts, helping to build team capability, strengthen performance, and foster a collaborative, high-performing culture.

Who you are

• You have relevant industry experience and a strong academic background. You bring 5+ years of experience in trading credit, corporate banking, capital markets, or financial institutions coverage. An MBA, CFA, or equivalent professional designation is preferred.
• You have strong credit expertise. You have strong knowledge of credit risk, derivatives, trading products, and corporate credit analysis. You also have experience preparing and reviewing complex credit applications and interpreting financial statements and accounting principles.
• You're an effective communicator. You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and effectively.
• You're a relationship builder. You bring strong relationship-building skills, along with the professionalism and judgment to work effectively with clients and internal partners.
• You are technically savvy. You have strong proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint; experience with credit, portfolio monitoring, and capital markets reporting tools is an asset.
• Values matter to you. You demonstrate a strong commitment to trust, teamwork, and accountability.
