The Director of Lean and Continuous Improvement will own the implementation and management of the Orion Operating System at Rocky Mountain Steel Mills. This individual will oversee and drive all continuous improvement activities within the organization. This individual will lead a small group of individuals in developing and implementing strategies to improve operational efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the organization understands the Purpose of the program, and rolling out and owning the Principles, Process, Tools, Metrics, and Cadence comprised by the program. This person will be responsible for coaching all levels of the organization on problem solving and the components of the program.
and Responsibilities
Program Development and growth:
Complete the design and implement the Orion Operating System at Rocky Mountain Steel Mills. Roll out the Principles, Process, Tools, Metrics, Cadence, and Standard Work necessary to stand up the program. Own the components of the program after implementation and get all levels of the organization involved through Kaizen events and coaching. Support the implementation of a Reliability Centered Maintenance Program.
Strategic Planning:
Develop the programs and projects aligned with leadership on business performance and organizational objectives.
Team Development:
Determine the right seats and right people for the Lean organization at Rocky Mountain Steel Mills. Develop a world-class team, providing guidance and support to existing and future team members.
Project Execution:
Either individually or through the team, oversee project execution including scoping, planning, execution, data analysis and monitoring. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and drive meaningful operational impact.
Process Improvement and Implementation of Standard Work:
Identify and document critical processes across the organization, and lead cross-functional teams to standardize work, measure performance toward the standard, and ensure the standard is driving intended results. Lead process improvement initiatives, including workshops, Kaizens, and brainstorming sessions to identify opportunities to improve operations, reduce waste and save costs.
Training and Development:
Develop and deliver training programs to embed lean and Continuous Improvement in the Rocky Mountain Steel Mills culture. Ensure the organization is focused on creating wins for Customers, Shareholders and Employees. Provide coaching on lean principles, and how they impact the business. Be a visible leader in the organization, spreading knowledge in townhalls, in daily stand-ups and admin cell meetings, weekly leadership meetings, and Monthly Operating Reviews.
Performance Monitoring:
Establish metrics and KPI’s to track the performance of continuous improvement initiatives as well as a system to determine which areas require improvement initiatives.
Build trust: Build relationships and trust across all levels of the organization.
