Director – Community Outreach and Engagement

Indiana University Health is seeking individuals who embody these values to join our IU Health’s leadership team in the role of Director of Community Outreach and Engagement.

The Director of Community Outreach and Engagement strategically drives IU Health's mission to improve the health of our communities through innovation and excellence in care, education, research, and service by extending the organization's values of charity and justice in healthcare outside of the hospital and clinic walls. This director leads the preservation of IU Health's non-profit status and community benefit reporting. This leader advances corporate social responsibility (CSR) in measurable ways that support, strengthen and improve communities.

The director develops, reviews, and maintains the outreach priorities for IU Health as identified in the community health needs assessment. This leader continually evaluates and assesses existing programs to ensure they meet the needs of the community, align with the organization's strategic goals, and priorities and achieve desired results. This director leads a team in the development of innovative programs and initiatives to advance system mission and engagement priorities. This leader works closely with external community groups and various agencies to assess community needs, measure overall community health status and drive community relations and community benefit efforts.

The successful candidate will be a highly effective leader who can inspire teams, build collaborative partnerships, navigate complex systems, and translate strategic vision into measurable results. This leader must be comfortable launching innovative initiatives, generating new opportunities for growth and impact, and bringing diverse stakeholders together to develop practical solutions that improve community health outcomes. The ability to identify emerging opportunities, activate teams toward a shared goal, and cultivate broad engagement across regions and disciplines is essential for success in this role.

Reports to: Executive Director-Community and Patient Outreach

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for the position will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.

• Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Marketing or related field is required.
• Master's Degree preferred.
• Requires 7-10 years of relevant management experience; experience in developing and implementing community health programs and initiatives is preferred.
• Requires experience in a complex, matrix organization.
• Requires knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local regulatory agency guidelines and laws.
• Strong clinical background preferred.
