Job Description

  • Seeking an experienced communications executive to lead and deliver high‑impact communications, media and stakeholder engagement aligned to organisational and NSW Government priorities
  • Role based in Sydney or elsewhere by negotiation
  • Competitive Total Remuneration Package, commensurate with experience.

The NSW Reconstruction Authority is seeking a Director, Communications & Engagement to set strategic direction and oversee integrated communications, media and engagement strategies supporting government priorities, legislation, programs and reforms. You will provide trusted advice to senior executives on reputational risk, issues management and crisis communications, and represent the organisation in high‑level stakeholder and government forums.

You will lead a dispersed communications and engagement team, overseeing media, digital platforms, corporate publications, stakeholder and community engagement, and key organisational products including the external website, Annual Report and social media channels. The role operates in a fast‑paced environment, balancing proactive strategic priorities with urgent and sensitive matters.

About You

We are looking for an executive with

  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience leading communications, media and engagement functions in a government or similarly complex environment where community communications has been a focus
  • Deep knowledge of public affairs and the government, media and stakeholder landscape and had experience supporting stakeholders
  • A proven track record delivering complex communication and engagement plans and managing reputational risk, including crisis and issues management
  • Demonstrated success designing and implementing innovative stakeholder and community engagement strategies for major government reforms
  • Strong people leadership capability, fostering high performance, change management, collaboration and capability development
  • Sound judgement, political acumen and the ability to manage contentious and sensitive issues with discretion
  • Public information and emergency management experience will be well regarded


Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience
  • Availability to work outside normal business hours when required

The NSW Reconstruction Authority is a statutory corporation that will improve how NSW plans for disasters and ensure that we recover from them faster.

To reduce the severity and impacts of disasters, the NSW Reconstruction Authority will complete critical planning and preparation with communities, businesses and government.
