Your role

We are looking for an experienced and forwardthinking leader to play a pivotal role in shaping service system reform across NSW. As Director, Commissioning and Planning, you will guide strategic market stewardship, strengthen commissioning practices, and ensure highquality services for individuals, families and communities. What you’ll do

As the Director Commissioning and Planning, you will:

  • Lead statewide commissioning and planning activities across more than 1,300 contracts, ensuring a strong, sustainable and effective nongovernment service market.
  • Oversee strategic market stewardship, supporting the growth of highperforming providers, enabling new market entrants, and identifying barriers to performance through collaboration and information sharing.
  • Direct procurement, contract negotiation and relationship management activities to drive service quality, accountability and value for money.
  • Lead performancebased planning, improvement initiatives, funding allocation and reporting to ensure services deliver meaningful outcomes for communities.
  • Provide expert guidance to program managers on systemic issues, risk management, governance and compliance.
  • Lead and develop a highperforming team committed to excellence, innovation and continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for

  • Extensive experience in strategic commissioning, procurement or contract management within a complex human services environment.
  • Strong capability in service planning, performance management and evidencebased decision making.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders to drive service improvement.
  • Experience leading teams, driving accountability and overseeing governance and risk frameworks.

Position locations

This recruitment ad covers five executive roles within the Commissioning and Planning team. Three roles support a defined geographic area across NSW (North/East NSW, South/West NSW, and Metro Sydney), while two roles will provide specialist, state‑wide coverage. Candidates brought forward to interview will be asked for their preference of role. Generally, there is an expectation for the roles with a defined geographic region, that the successful candidate will be based in that geographic region.
