JOB PURPOSE
The Director, Commercial Transmission Operations is a senior technical-commercial leadership role within Real Time Operations, accountable for converting complex transmission rights, market constructs, and operational constraints into reliable, financially optimized outcomes for Pattern's operating and development portfolio. The role provides the organization with deep subject-matter ownership across CAISO's Subscriber Participating Transmission Owner framework, Transmission Service Rights, Existing Transmission Contracts, Congestion Revenue Rights, Transmission Ownership Rights, EDAM and Markets+ seams, and related Western Interconnection transmission constructs.
This position leads the transition of relevant assets into day-ahead market participation; supports development teams in structuring transmission, interconnection, and commercialization pathways for future projects; and serves as the Senior Director's designated backup in executive, cross-functional, and operational escalation settings. Success requires uncommon fluency across market design, tariff interpretation, real-time operations, financial exposure management, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership.

EducationBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Economics, Energy Systems, Business, or a related technical/commercial discipline preferred; equivalent, directly relevant industry experience may be considered.

The position requires mature leadership judgment, executive presence, and the ability to direct analysts, specialists, shift managers, schedulers, and cross-functional technical resources. The role must be able to represent Real Time Operations with senior leaders, development, commercial, legal, regulatory, compliance, external transmission providers, market operators, and vendors. Proficiency with OASIS platforms, e-Tagging systems, CAISO and SPP market tools, power-flow or transmission modeling tools such as PowerWorld or equivalent, Microsoft Office, and analytical reporting tools is expected.
The expected starting pay range for this role is $137,000 - $186,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
